General Duties and Responsibilities:

• Moderate-to-heavy lifting and labor; can be physically demanding at times (sometimes items can weigh over 100 pounds).

• High sense of urgency to complete all tasks daily.

• Load and unload trucks / vehicles.

• Weigh all items (food and non-food items) that are received, and accurately record the weights on the appropriate paperwork.

• Knowledgeable and capable of safely operating heavy machinery, such as forklifts and electric pallet jacks (only people 18 and older can operate the forklift and electric pallet jacks).

• Knowledgeable and capable of safely operating a pallet jack and handtruck.

• Organize and maintain the warehouse, 2 outside buildings, coolers, freezers, and trailers.

• Supervise, instruct, and correct safe work practices.

• Ensure all pallets are shrink-wrapped and labeled correctly.

• Ensure all pallets are placed in the steel correctly and safely.

• Ensure the warehouse, 2 outside buildings, coolers, freezers, trailers, and parking lot are neat, clean, and safe.

• Maintain and organize food in buggies, pallets, bins, coolers, freezers, etc.

• Sort food items correctly into proper classifications (i.e. raw, cooked, wet, dry, etc).

• Move food inventory through and out of the Pantry in a timely manner with regard to expiration dates (maintain proper rotation with food expiration dates; i.e. oldest dated food needs to be distributed first).

• Knowledgeable of safe food handling practices.

• Knowledgeable of proper cold food chain handling practices.

• Clearly communicate directions.

• Answer questions clearly and concisely.

• Assist fellow workers / helpers as needed; teamwork.

• Assist everyone who brings donations in to the Pantry

• Assist with distributing food to families in need within our community

• Assist with making food boxes

• Assist with loading families cars with food boxes

• Model hard-working standards and excellence.

• Manage own time, and the time of others effectively and wisely.

• Prepare and plan for upcoming deliveries / distributions.

• Identify problems, then develop and implement solutions.

• Effectively train people using verbal, visual, and hands-on demonstration.

• Engage everyone who volunteers, does community service, donates, picks up a distribution, and/or is a guest with a smile, courtesy, respect, friendliness, helpfulness, and professionalism.

• Tolerate differences in weather conditions and temperatures.

• Tolerate working in the cold temperatures of the freezers and coolers.

• Follow Pantry rules, regulations, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

• Able to listen to, understand, receive, and accept information and ideas communicated to be implemented and/or executed.

• Able to receive and accept direction, correction, and/or guidance from superiors and/or peers.

• Complete weekly safety and fluid level checks on both forklifts and all electric pallet jacks. Fill up all fluids and apply grease when levels are down.

• Able to safely operate a cardboard baler
