Job Overview:

• The General Contractor Assistant position is responsible for the following:
• overseeing construction operations under the supervision of the Construction Manager
• Work with Construction Laborers side by side to get job completed
• Operating heavy equipment to lift, move, or place equipment or materials
• Driving equipment and vehicles (including tri-axle dump trucks) between sites
• Performing basic duties associated with operating heavy equipment and vehicles

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Operating various construction machines and vehicles: Bulldozers, Crawlers, Skid Loaders, Excavators, Backhoes, Tri-Axle Dump Trucks, Work Vans, etc. in a safe and appropriate manner
• Conducting pre-operational checks on equipment and perform regular maintenance and minor repairs when necessary
• Following all safety procedures while operating equipment
• Performing general construction and maintenance duties including, but not limited to, framing, finishing, underground utilities, final gradings, storm water management, sewer systems, pipe and shovel work, snow removal, etc.
• preparing and securing equipment, maintaining clean and safe work areas, and collaborating and leading with a team of workers to complete each project.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• High School diploma or GED
• Relevant experience preferred with operating heavy equipment
• Familiarity with residential and commercial construction practices
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred 
• Employment is conditional on verification of clean driving record, background check(s), and pre-employment/random drug testing

Supervisory Responsibility:

• Leading a team of Construction Laborers and be able to have decision making skills to complete job and guide others when needed

Work Environment:

• This job operates in the field and is mostly outdoors

Some job functions will be performed outdoors and expose the employee to changing weather conditions.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:

• This is a full-time position and regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.in addition to weekends on an as-needed basis with the ability to work outside of or in addition to those hours as needed.

Travel:

• Must be willing to travel and occasionally stay overnight at different job sites.
