Helix Community Schools is Hiring a Middle School Think Law Teacher Near Baton Rouge, LA

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as a Middle School Think Law Teacher. The ideal candidate will have a strong legal background and/or experience, coupled with a passion for education. This position requires not only the ability to teach legal concepts using the Think Law curriculum but also to plan and coordinate events, secure guest speakers, and organize field trips to enhance the understanding of legal components within our middle school curriculum.

Responsibilities:

  • Think Law Curriculum: Implement the Think Law curriculum to teach middle school students about legal principles, fostering critical thinking skills and an understanding of their role as advocates.
  • Teaching Excellence: Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring that students grasp legal concepts effectively and develop into critical thinkers.
  • Event Planning: Organize and coordinate events related to legal education, such as seminars, workshops, and mock trials, with a focus on developing students as advocates for their community and self.
  • Guest Speakers: Secure professionals from the legal field as guest speakers to provide real-world insights and experiences, inspiring students to become advocates for positive change.
  • Field Trips: Plan and execute field trips to legal institutions, courtrooms, and other relevant locations, providing hands-on learning experiences and encouraging students to connect legal concepts to real-world issues.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administrators to integrate legal education seamlessly into the overall middle school curriculum, emphasizing the development of critical thinking skills.
  • Advocacy Development: Implement strategies to develop students into critical thinkers and advocates for their community and personal growth.
  • Assessment: Evaluate student progress through assessments, projects, and other means, providing constructive feedback to support their development as critical thinkers and advocates.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Education, Law, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Legal Experience: Substantial legal background and/or experience, with a deep understanding of legal principles.
  • Teaching Experience: Proven experience in middle school education with a focus on interactive and engaging teaching methods.
  • Event Planning Skills: Ability to plan and execute various events, from small classroom activities to large-scale programs.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and professionals in the legal field.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and responsibilities effectively.
  • Innovative Thinking: Creative and innovative mindset to develop unique and compelling ways to teach legal concepts and promote critical thinking.
