Position Description:

This is a position for a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Lathe Machine Operator to manufacture parts from raw material to completion per blue print.

A typical day for a CNC Lathe Machine Operator looks like this:

  • Measure dimensions of completed products or work pieces to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Remove fixtures, tools, or other parts from equipment.
  • Replace worn equipment components and replenishing cutting fluid.
  • Mount raw material or tools onto production equipment.
  • Clean and maintain a safe workspace.
  • Learn and become inspired to continually improve.

Needed Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:

  • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
  • Post-Secondary Certificate - awarded for training completed after high school (for example, in Personnel Services, Engineering-related Technologies, NIMS, CNC Trades, Mechanics and Repairers, Precision Production Trades)

Knowledge:

  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.
  • Design - Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of finished components.
  • English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Technical:

  • Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Programming - Writing G Code programs for various jobs.
  • Quality Control Analysis - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.

Work Context:

Body Positioning:

  • Spend Time Bending or Twisting the Body
  • Spend Time Making Repetitive Motions
  • Spend Time Standing and Spend Time Walking
  • Spend Time Using Your Hands to Handle, Control, or Feel Objects, Tools, or Controls
  • Ability to Lift up to 50 lbs. Without Assistance

Environmental Conditions, Physical Restrictions & Job Hazards:

  • Exposed to Contaminants
  • Sounds, Noise Levels Are Distracting

Work Setting:

  • Indoors, Environmentally Controlled

Work Attire:

  • Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves or?Hearing Protection
