The Helena Public Schools are accepting applications for Summer School Principals at the Elementary level.

Hours for Summer School begin at 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM M-TH Times may vary

In-Person Teaching and Learning at School Site with Field Trips into the Community

Tentative Dates are 6/16/22 - 7/29/22

Salary for Summer School Administrators is $56.82 per hour. Current Montana Administrative Certificate is required. Hiring immediately.

SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

TITLE

Principal

PURPOSE

This position is responsible for delivering instructional leadership to the school community through administration and personnel management in accordance with the mission and vision of Helena Public Schools.

REPORTS TO

Assistant Superintendent

The School Principal is a fundamental component of the District leadership team. This position is focused on student education, community engagement and creating time, energy and resources to ensure students are afforded the opportunity to learn in a supportive, competitive and engaging environment.

The Principal provides instructional leadership to the school community including curriculum planning, review and implementation, and professional development. The successful incumbent is responsible for building administration, collaborative efforts, safety and the welfare of both students and faculty. The Principal maintains open and positive communication with all members of the school community, building relationships, ensuring student engagement and supporting teachers and district staff in the pursuit of delivering excellent educational services. Facilitates comprehensive school wide annual planning and fosters excellence in education.

The position requires a high level of outside and inside contacts, which require a mature ability to answer questions related to the program and sound judgment in directing questions, complaints or requests for assistance to Central Administration.

The Principal must have a working knowledge of the requirements related to instructional leadership, curriculum programming, personnel, federal, state and local laws and policies. They must possess strong organizational, public relations and communication skills.

CRITICAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Encourages all students to perform at their highest level.
  • Management and Supervision of all building personnel.
  • Develops the master schedule including the development of class schedules and assignment of students.
  • Resolves staff issues through the use of conflict resolution.
  • Provides support to teachers and staff.
  • Supervises students during instructional and extra-curricular activities.
  • Evaluates performance of teachers, programs and staff.
  • Plans and facilitates professional development for faculty as needed.
  • Prepares and manages the school budget.
  • Maintain relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers and community agencies.
  • Implements policy and procedure established the Board of Trustees.
  • Follows guidelines established by the State and Federal Government.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the school community.
  • Coordinate cleaning and maintenance activities for facility and site with District Facilities Manager and Custodial Services Manager.
  • Develops and administers a comprehensive improvement plan that guides all instructional programs and activities in the school.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages and supervises all employees in the School. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and mentoring employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recognizing/affirming and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

M.A. and five years experience in teaching and three years of administrative experience is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Teaching Certificate with appropriate Administrative Endorsement and special course work related to Administration.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The demands of extended work time (coverage of building activities and extra-curricular activities, etc.) require a high level of physical endurance. This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
