The Helena Public Schools are accepting applications for Elementary Summer School General Education Para Educator.

Hours for Summer School begin at 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM M-TH Times may vary

In-Person Teaching and Learning at School Site with Field Trips into the Community

Season Dates: June 16th- July 28th

Helena School District # 1 has openings for Elementary General Education Para Educators (Teacher Assistant). Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting instructional personnel in general daily classroom activities; assisting in the school's main office; assisting in the Nurse's office; assisting students individually and/or in small groups; assisting with ourdoor supervision; and assisting with lunch supervision. Prior successful experience assisting elementary school aged students is preferred. Minimum qualifications include: high school graduation or equivalent; one (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by the District.

Existing District ParaEducators will be paid at their current hourly wage. Entry level pay range is $13.00 per hour.

Position Description

Job Title: Paraprofessional
Department: Educational Services
Reports To: Building Administrator
Prepared Date: November 2018

SUMMARY: Assist instructional personnel in general daily classroom activities. Supervise students at recess, lunch and outside play. Responsible to represent the school building and district in a most positive way to students, staff, parents, and the school community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Assists in small group pupil instruction, tutors pupils at teachers’ request.
Assists teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions.
Assists with set up of classroom and prepares materials for specialized instructional units.
Assists teacher with attendance and related clerical functions.
Assists in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current.
Operates standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
Assist with loading and unloading of students on the buses.
May escort children to and from various rooms.
Other duties as assigned.

Other essential duties and responsibilities depending upon assignment:
Processes student attendance.
Prepares mailings.
Distributes building mail and community/district flyers
Greets visitors.
Files records/memos.
Makes and receives telephone calls, takes messages, routes calls.
Provides appropriate first aid.
Administers medications according to policy and regulations.
Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May supervise students when the teacher and/or librarian are not present.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); a minimum of two years of study at an institution of higher education and/or an associate’s (or higher) degree; one to three-months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, guardians, and/or staff.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to meet multiple demands from several people. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, guardians and/or the school community. Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Trustees policies.
