    Gifted and Talented Teaching Position

    The following position requires a Montana Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement. Multiple endorsements are preferred for all positions, as area assignment combinations exist or may develop. This position is for high school level students.
    Part TIme (.50 FTE) Gifted and Talented Teacher - This position will assist with the delivery of Gifted Education services for the District students. Prior experience working with gifted and talented students preferred.
    Application materials required include: District Certified application, resume, copy of Montana teaching certificateand copies of college transcripts. Entry salary for this position is $41,615.00./year. This position will remain open until filled. The Helena Public Schools are an EEO employer.

    Position Description
    Position Title: Teacher, Gifted and Talented Program
    Department: Instruction
    Reports To: Program Coordinator
    Date: 05/07/07
    SUMMARY: Instructs students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible adults.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.
    1) Teaches District approved curriculum.
    2) Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
    3) Prepares for classes assigned.
    4) Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    5) Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
    6) Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and -in harmony with the goals -establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
    7) Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
    8) Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
    9) Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
    10) Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
    11) Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
    12) Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
    13) Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Student, Volunteer classroom helpers.
    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Four year degree in area of major study. One to three years teaching experience at elementary or middle school level
    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:Valid Teaching License in area of study required.
    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
