Our Long Island Summer Camp will be at Long Island University, LUI post-Long Island. Our camp runs from July 8, 2024, to August 9, 2024.
Summer Camp Activity Leader
Responsible for the execution of HKS’s Mission, goals, and objectives through the overall operation of Camp Helen Keller.Other duties may be assigned or requested by his/her immediate supervisor and/or the Director of the Department.
Activity leaderswill be responsible for leading the sports, swimming, music & dance, arts & crafts, and technology activities respectively, encouraging campers to master these skills, based on their individual needs and abilities. Also, expected to utilize the training received at orientation to support the social-emotional development of the children enrolled in the program. This includes not only monitoring the campers, but also being constantly, and actively engaged in the activities and events, including but not limited to outdoor sports, swimming, music & dance, arts & crafts, technology, and various field trips. In addition, staff members are expected to encourage campers to master independent living skills, based on their individual needs and abilities.
Activity leaders may be expected to work Monday through Friday, various hours based on busing needs for the Helen Keller Camp and Community Habilitation programs. The Camp Counselor is expected to be responsible, flexible, and dependable. The Camp Counselor is also exposed regularly to individuals who have varying degrees of intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, as well as physical disabilities.
