THE ROLE AND THE COMPANY

Heidelberg Materials provides the materials to build our future. Our future is sustainable. Our future is digital. And it goes way beyond cement, aggregates and ready-mixed concrete. Heidelberg Materials North America, previously known as Lehigh Hanson, operates more than 450 locations with approximately 9,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada.

Heidelberg Materials seeks to future proof its cement operations with increased digitization and operational capability. The overarching goal is to centralize operations, and to achieve operational excellence. For this purpose, it is establishing the Heidelberg Materials Remote Optimization Center (HROC) in its headquarters in Irving, Texas.

As an HROC Process Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise to multiple cement plants within a designated region. Based in a central location remote to the plants, you will collaborate closely with plant teams to optimize process performance, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the region. Occasional travel to the plant sites supported will be required.

What You’ll Get to Do

  • Process Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize product quality. Analyze data, conduct experiments, and recommend adjustments to process parameters, equipment, and operating procedures.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Serve as the primary technical resource for plant teams in diagnosing and resolving process performance issues, equipment malfunctions, and product quality concerns. Provide expertise, propose solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Production Planning and Coordination: Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to develop and execute production plans. Ensure that production targets are met while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and quality regulations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement by actively seeking opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity. Implement best practices, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and initiate improvement projects.
  • Process Monitoring and Control: Monitor key process parameters, collect, and analyze data, and ensure adherence to established operating parameters. Optimize process control strategy and maintain process control system tools (including advanced process control systems) to optimize process performance and maintain product quality within specifications.
  • Safety and Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, promote a safe working environment, and actively participate in safety initiatives. Monitor and manage environmental aspects of the process to minimize environmental impact and comply with environmental regulations.
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing: Provide training and guidance to operations and maintenance personnel on process-related topics. Share knowledge and best practices with team members to enhance overall competency and understanding of the cement manufacturing process. Provide coaching and guidance to control room operators.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of process parameters, equipment maintenance, and operational procedures. Prepare regular reports on process performance, KPIs, and improvement initiatives for management review.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in cement manufacturing or similar heavy industrial and/or chemical processes.
  • Strong knowledge of cement manufacturing processes, including raw materials preparation, kiln operations, grinding, and quality control.
  • Proficiency in process optimization techniques, statistical analysis, and process control systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations in the cement industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to the plant sites supported for inspections, meetings, and project implementation.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software and MS Office applications.
