Hebrew Educational Alliance is Hiring a Youth Programs Coordinator Near Denver, CO

Hebrew Educational Alliance is a vibrant, inclusive Conservative congregation in south Denver, Colorado. We aspire to be a community where children and families think, do, and feel Jewish. Our programs offer a multitude of unique and engaging ways to celebrate, learn, pray and connect with Jewish traditions, teachings, and each other both inside and outside our synagogue walls.

We are hiring a Youth Programs Coordinator who leads both informal programming for toddlers-12th graders and formal, educational programming for K-12th grade youth with the intent of engaging students, facilitating connections, and developing Jewish identity. This position includes daytime programs, weekend work, as well as an occasional overnight. The Youth Programs Coordinator reports to and is supported by the HEA Education Director.

The scope of work of the Youth Programs Coordinator can be broken down into several key areas:

Youth Advisor for Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers

A. Visions, develops, promotes, and implements programming for youth groups (Kadima and USY) that is balanced in educational, religious, social action, and engagement content. Creates a calendar of events including such elements as “hangouts”, volunteer opportunities, leadership experiences, and learning series in partnership with the youth group board. Coaches teens on program planning and implementation, outreach/marketing, experiential Jewish education, and leading peers.

B. Plans and coordinates teen participation in USY programs in our Western Region USY chapter as well as in HEA-wide community programs (e.g. Purim Carnival, Youth Led Shabbat, Yom HaShoah, and teen programming for High Holidays).

C. Fosters meaningful relationships as a mentor to youth and teens in the HEA community and beyond, including potential youth group members.

D. Defines the roles and responsibilities of our youth group board, including overseeing the recruitment, selection, training, and retaining of youth leaders. Facilitates and oversees teen board, including monthly meetings and one-on-ones.

E. Staffs and supports Jewish educational programs for teens (e.g. Chai School, Confirmation, Madrichim)

F. Manages the youth budget and finances.

G. Communicates via email, text, and phone calls with families and teens about upcoming programming.

Religious School Programs

A. Supports the Education Director in Religious School programming including set up, leading stations, buying materials, assisting with technology, and supporting staff and students.

B. Drafts and edits communications and programmatic marketing materials for families and ensures that the weekly communication needs of the Education department are sent out accurately and on time in partnership with the Education Director.

C. Supports registration and membership outreach on behalf of Religious School to current and potential families.

Young Family Programs

A. Collaborates with Young Family program staff to plan and implement young family programming at HEA.

B. Staffs and supports young family programs at HEA (e.g. Tot Shabbat, Shabbat Along Friday service and dinner) in rotation with other Education and Engagement staff.

C. Purchases and prepares materials for young family programs as needed.

Coordination with Other Departments and Programs

A. Works closely with HEA’s Education Director, Engagement Director, Preschool Director, and clergy on HEA youth and family programs.

B. Builds relationships and collaborations with other USY staff and chapters, Denver teen program staff, Israeli Shlichim, Jewish camp professionals, and other local partners.

C. Coordinates with the HEA Communications Director on marketing, including social media content and strategy.

External Relations:

A. Builds and develops relationships with community members and HEA parents, children, and other family members.

B. Introduces and implements larger-scale programs offered by USY including retreats and out of town Shabbatons.

C. Supports community-wide programs (e.g. Sukkot festival, Havdalah at the Butterfly Pavillion).

D. Partners with volunteers as well as staff to ensure the programmatic excellence and inclusivity of programs.

Role Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

● Understanding of Jewish rituals, customs, holidays and congregational relationship building.

● Must be courteous, responsive, discreet, and flexible.

● Experience working with children and teens in a camp, synagogue, or educational setting.

● Passion for teen engagement.

● Strong ability to develop and implement post B’nai Mitzvah experiential programs with an emphasis on community building.

● Be a lifelong learner and outstanding role model who sees potential in every child and appreciates diversity in thought, heritage, and Jewish practice.

● Demonstrate passion for Jewish engagement and education.

● Detail oriented and comfortable with technology

Salary range: $40,000-$45,000 plus benefits

Hours: This position can either be a 10-month position that is full-time during those 10 months; or a part- time position working 32 hours per week (.8 time) year-round.
