Heathwood Hall Episcopal School is Hiring a Varsity Wrestling Head Coach Near Columbia, SC

Varsity Wrestling Head Coach

Heathwood Hall Episcopal School has a competitive wrestling program that is actively seeking coaching talent to build strong skills and dedication to the sport and lead the program.

Position responsibility may include the following:

  • Build the team schedule and plan practices each week.
  • Build a culture of skill development, hard work, teamwork, and fun.
  • Communicate the weekly schedule to students and parents including practices, workouts, travel information, and competitions during the in-season, off-season, and summer.
  • Oversee the program's equipment and uniforms.
  • Encourage broad participation from Middle School and Upper School student athletes on campus, and collaborate with other members of the coaching staff at all levels.
  • Keep a continuous line of communication with everyone associated with the program, including but not limited to parents, athletes, other coaches, and the Athletic Director.

Performance areas that must stand out for Heathwood Coaches include:

Rapport

A coach must be able to develop a good rapport with any number of individuals and groups: The student body, the professional staff (faculty, administration, maintenance), the community as a whole, spectators, officials, fellow coaches in the district, media representatives, and parents. Good rapport and an image of competency and care are invaluable for the coach.

Organization

The school expects its coach staff to put a maximum effort towards organizing and managing a multifaceted program that includes ownership of communicating needs including everything from transportation to gear tracking, hiring assistant coaches to designing team events, if applicable.

Leadership

Diligence, enthusiasm, honesty and a love for the sport are all part of a professional pride that should be exhibited by any coach. Personal appearance, dress, and physical condition should be exemplary. Dressing appropriately for practice, creating and following practice schedules and building positive attitudes are very important.

Discipline

Every facet of discipline is the coach's responsibility to communicate and coordinate with the Athletic Director. Individually, the coach becomes the model of all that the program represents - observation of school codes, training rules, rules of the game, ideals of good sportsmanship, behavior of participants throughout the season (at home and away) and the conduct of the crowd - especially where the student body is concerned. Desire to do well; to win well, and to lose well, should be emphasized. Staff, players and spectators should be motivated toward established goals. The Program Head is a resource for any issue of concern that comes up.

  • Design and implement a training program for Varsity, JV and MS athletes.
  • Schedule team-appropriate meets for the season.
  • Promote the distance program among current and prospective student-athletes, and encourage broad participation from the student-athletes on campus.
  • Select one team summer camp opportunity ahead of the season for the purposes of training, team bonding, and exposure to other talented runners.
  • Collaborate with other members of the coaching staff at all levels.
  • Build a culture of dedication, good sportsmanship, camaraderie, teamwork, and fun.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage assistant cross country coaches.
  • Send weekly emails to student-athletes and their families to provide important upcoming details including transportation, practice, and meet information.
  • Maintain and organize team gear and uniforms, including inventory, organizing, start of season distribution and end of season collection.
  • Organize an end-of-season celebration with athletes and parents.
  • Support athletes (and their families) and assist them with the college process.
  • Keep a continuous line of communication with everyone associated with the program, including but not limited to parents, athletes, other coaches, and the Athletic Administration team.

Season Dates: The official start of the season is October 28 with fall practices permitted in the pre-season. The season concludes at the State meet in early February 2025.

Stipend: Commensurate with the position level and applicant experience.
