Heartland Veterinary Partners is Hiring a Kennel assistant Near Troy, MI

Position Purpose

Reportinginto the Practice Manager the Kennel Attendant provides care toaddress the needs of patients that are visiting the practice forgrooming and / or boarding.

The Kennel Attendant ensures that theboarding area is clean and safe for all patients by cleaning cagesruns and ward areas and washing laundry.

The Kennel Attendant walksfeeds and administers medication to patients (as needed andsupervised by Doctor or Technician and based on confidence andexperience).

EssentialResponsibilities

  • Provides greatcare for patients visiting the practice for grooming and / orboarding.
  • Ensures patients areadmitted noting the client’s specific instructions toensure a quality outcome including contact information and pick uptime.
  • Accurately and legiblyrecords information related to the patient such as feedingschedules appearance and behavior during practice visit.
  • Observes patient’s appearance andactivity for general physical condition obvious signs of illnessdisease and discontent.
  • Appropriately handles patients and as needed properly restrainshardtocontrol patients.
  • Walkspatients several times a day to provide exercise and time forelimination of bowels and bladder.
  • Ensures patients are clean and fresh smellingand have been checked by a Technician / Doctor prior to discharge;ensures patient has all personal property upon exit.
  • Ensures cages and patients are properlynumbered and identified and that personal property (toys treatsblankets leashes) are stored in the proper areas andidentified.
  • Regularly cleansdisinfects and maintain kennels cages runs and stalls as often asis necessary to ensure no cages or kennels are soiled and odors arenot apparent.

Performs general cleaning in other areas of thehospital to control the spread of disease. Washes and sterilizeswater and food bowls.

Essential Responsibilities continued

  • Launders and dries towels andblankets.
  • Walks hospital groundsregularly and cleans any trash and stool material; empties trashthroughout the practice and grounds.
  • In some practices and based on veterinarypractice experiences and confidence :

o Assistswith the administration of medications under the supervision ofDoctors or Technicians; assists with the administration ofmedications postoperative care or preparation of samples forlaboratory examination collect specimens clean instruments fillprescriptions as authorized.

o Provides bathingand grooming services.

Performsother duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Full or parttime
  • Ability to work on weekends
  • Previous veterinary experiencepreferred
  • Client satisfactionreferences preferred
  • Ability tolift patients up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients over 25pounds with assistance
  • PracticesOSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
