JOB TITLE: Billing Clerk

DEPARTMENT: Billing

REPORTS TO: Billing Supervisor

EFFECTIVE DATE: 1/27/2021

SUMMARY: Process billing claims accurately and timely for payment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Medical records (Patient Care Report) review
• Second phase verification of patient demographics
• Verify PCR for correctness of origin and destination, times and mileages, etc.
• Knowledge of ICD-10 coding/modifiers for Symptom (code) extraction from PCR
• Confirms service level provided and billable
• Inbound/Outbound calls for insurance verification and authorization request
• Electronic and paper insurance claims processing, follow-up, and reprocessing if needed
• Communicating with patients, clients, and staff
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school Diploma or equivalent.
• Medical billing/coding experience - Preferred but NOT required
• CAC Certified - Preferred but NOT required
• Understanding of billing documents and knowledge of insurance carriers related to federal, state, and private health plans
• Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
• High level of accuracy and problem solving ability
• Systems and software proficiency, including Microsoft Office
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
• HIPAA compliance training, if incomplete can be provided.

Preferred experience:

• Billing: 1 year
• EMS training and/or exposure to emsCharts would be ideal but not required.
