Description GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES The Camp Cook assists in preparing nutritious, sustainably-sourced meals at the camp. Helps to maintain the cleanliness and excellent standing with the Department of Health. PRINCIPAL DUTIES
To support Food Service Department policies, philosophies & procedures.
Responsible for Food Service and Dining Hall operations.
Responsible for meals and baked goods served to guests.
Prepare meals as dictated by the menu while maintaining strict budgeted food and labor costs.
Responsible for kitchen cleanliness, ensuring that all work areas (and equipment) are kept clean, sanitary, secure, maintained and safe at all times, in accordance with the Alabama health and sanitation codes and America Camping Association standards.
Work scheduled shifts, weekends, as well as supporting special events and functions associated with Camp Cha-La-Kee (i.e. weddings; family reunions; receptions; etc).
Regular consultation with the Camp Director regarding problems or concerns associated with product ordering or food preparation in order to consistently provide high quality well cooked meals.
Review daily tasks for staff and monitor work hours as established by the Camp Director and Alabama labor law.
Responsible for opening and closing the kitchen on assigned shifts and for the completion of Kitchen Manager Reports and Food Production Records.
Support control of inventory and overall security of the Camp Dining Hall, including staff access. Also rotate inventory in accordance with First In First Out principle.
To maintain personal cleanliness; Meet health and sanitation requirements including wearing a hat/hair net, apron & gloves and hand washing as required by assigned tasks and Alabama Health & Sanitation codes.
Requirements EXPERIENCE/PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Willingness to carry out the mission of the YMCA and its programs.
Ability to see that all business and safety records and procedures set up by the corporation are completed accurately within the defined time schedule.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain all personal certifications needed to serve in this position.
Ability to interpret, as well as, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Computer experience in a Windows environment and Microsoft Office.
Ability to learn and utilize other software programs.
Work to continue personal competency through education, outside literature, seminars, etc.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
High School Education
Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
