Heart City Health is Hiring a Patient Financial Rep Near Elkhart, IN

Position Summary:

The Patient Financial Services Representative is responsible for communicating with patients regarding charges, outstanding balances and Heart City Health Center policies and procedures related to securing payment for services rendered.

Essential Functions:

  1. Verifies and documents sliding fee scale eligibility 
  2. Educates patients regarding financial responsibility
  3. Provides detail of all collection processes and adjustments for submission to billing manager, CFO and Board of Directors 
  4. Processes Medicaid applications
  5. Processes bankruptcy account write offs and deceased patient write offs
  6. Makes payment arrangements on remaining patient balances
  7. Sends out monthly statements
  8. Submits quarterly small balance write offs to billing manager for approval and board submission
  9. Processes patient terminations for financial (non payments)
  10. Responsible for employee and board member’s patient accounts (a.k.a. sensitive charts)
  11. Combines duplicate accounts and applies funds on account
  12. Researches accounts and requests patient refunds as necessary
  13. Actively participates in departmental meetings
  14. Submits monthly reports to billing manager and CFO, including but not limited to: receivables (A/R)
  15. Complete successful training and certification as a Marketplace Enrollment Assistant
  16. Educates and assists anyone needing to complete an application for the Health Insurance Marketplaces
  17. Other duties as assigned

  2. Excellent customer service skills; actively seeks ways to assist internal and external customers within the scope of assigned duties
  3. Good computer skills; Outlook, Windows, Microsoft Office applications; EMR exposure preferred
  4. Good basic mathematical skills; uses a calculator or other means to accurately figure all transactions
  5. Good time management skills; self evaluates the use of time and understands how others may be affected
  6. Cultural diversity awareness and skills; respects all people regardless of race, nationality or social standing
  7. Ability to work independently (self-motivating) and as part of a team
  8. Ability to multi-task; comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  9. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, providers, managers, patients and vendors
  10. Problem sensitivity skills; empathetic/understanding
  11. Deductive reasoning and problem-solving skills
  12. Organized and detail-oriented
  13. Bilingual (English/Spanish) language skills preferred

Education, Experience and Licensure:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  2. Minimum 1 to 2 years experience in patient financial services or related field
