Occupational Therapy Assistants are highly trained healthcare professionals who provide support and assistance to Occupational Therapists as they help patients improve their ability to perform daily living and work-related tasks. They are responsible for assisting patients in achieving their individualized treatment goals designed by the Occupational Therapist. The following is a job description for Occupational Therapy Assistants:

Responsibilities:

1. Assisting the Occupational Therapist with evaluations and assessments of patients.

2. Designing and implementing individualized treatment plans for patients that focus on increasing independence, self-care management, and enhanced work and play skills.

3. Developing and maintaining patient records, including assessment results, progress reports, and treatment notes.

4. Communicating with caregivers, family members, and other healthcare professionals involved in the patient's care.

5. Preparing and maintaining the therapeutic environment, including set-up and organization of treatment areas.

6. Using equipment and technology to support and reinforce treatment plans.

7. Providing verbal and written instructions to patients on therapeutic activities and exercises and encouraging them to practice these activities both in the clinic and at home.

8. Providing emotional support to patients and families, and addressing any issues or concerns they may have.

9. Observing and reporting any changes in patient behavior or progress to the Occupational Therapist.

10. Participating in continuing education and training to keep up to date with the latest therapy techniques and procedures.

Requirements:

1. Associate's degree or higher in Occupational Therapy Assistant program from an accredited institution.

2. Current licensure and certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.

3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

4. Experience working with a variety of patient populations and medical conditions.

5. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

6. Proficiency in using technology and equipment used in occupational therapy.

7. Ability to maintain a positive, caring, and professional demeanor with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.

8. Ability to lift and support patients with physical therapists when needed.
