JOB SUMMARY

Director of Medical Staff Services supports of the goals of the Organization and the Medical Staff Services Department in meeting the needs of the Medical Staff Organization, associated with quality patient care through appropriate credentialing of Physicians and Allied Health Professionals. The purpose of the position is to provide support of the Medical Staff in its self-governance and practical application of its Bylaws, Rules and Regulations pertaining to Membership and Privileging.

RESPONSIBILITIES & JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Ensure organizational adherence to accreditation/regulatory standards, HCA policies, and medical staff bylaws and serve as the hospital’s subject matter expert regarding relevant accreditation and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and maintain facility credentialing policies in accordance with accreditation and regulatory standards, HCA policies, and medical staff bylaws.

  • Ensures that appointments and reappointments to the Medical Staff and Allied Health Staff are processed efficiently and in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, and specific policies and procedures of the Medical Staff Credentialing Process.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the facility, the Credentialing Processing Center (CPC), and division leadership on topics related to the medical staff and credentialing operations and function as the advocate for the CPC

  • Oversee facility credentialing operations applying the credentials evaluation process uniformly to all RFC/applications and R-RFC/re-applications in accordance with corporate guidelines and to ensure compliance with internal credentialing procedures.

  • Continually, evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of all MSSD functions, analyzes trends, and implements changes to achieve performance excellence

  • Provide resources to facility medical staff leaders (Chief Medical Officer, Chief of Staff, committee and specialty chairs) to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities

  • Facilitate medical staff organizational functions including committees, clinical privilege functions, performance improvement and peer review

  • Facilitate medical staff education for new medical staff members, new committee and governing body members about roles and responsibilities related to credentialing privileging and peer review, as well as education to administrators and department directors about their role and interface with credentialing operations.

  • Ensure timely and accurate maintenance of the Cactus credentialing database, MEDITECH dictionary and ALL facility interfaces related to credentialing, privileging, peer review and access control.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum: 2 years Medical Staff Services or hospital administration experience Preferred: 5 years Medical Staff Services experience

  • Detailed working knowledge of the health care and credentialing industry, including medical-legal issues and laws, regulatory standards as related to credentialing, privileging and peer review, and other national standards

  • Working knowledge of Medical Staff principles and operations specific to regulatory expectations (JCAHO, NCQA, DHS, CMS, Title XXII etc). Medical terminology. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving, critical thinking ability.

  • Preferred Certifications: CPCS, CPMSM
