HealthReach Community Clinic - Job Announcement

Position Title: Lab Manager

Reports to: Medical Director (clinical) and Executive Director

Classification: Exempt

Category: Permanent, Part-Time; Non-Benefited

Schedule: Up to 20 hours each week

Pay Rate: Dependent on certifications and experience

The Lab Manager is responsible for overseeing the responsibilities of the HealthReach lab and collaborating with our clinical team and lab processing facilities. This position performs all lab services, evaluates and updates clinic safety and hazard assessments, creates departmental metrics, and compiles associated reports.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients before the lab procedure, explain lab procedures to patients, and answer questions about the process
  • Follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas
  • Gather medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, specimen cups, storage bags, test tubes, test swabs, etc.
  • Verify patient information and label lab samples properly
  • Deliver lab samples to the local hospital for analysis, on occasion
  • Keep detailed records of lab procedures performed for monthly and annual key performance indicators review
  • Oversee yearly clinical OSHA/HIPAA assessments and annual hazard analysis review and updates
  • Assist with the coordination and management of on-site tests (FIT tests, pulmonary function testing, etc.)
  • Deliver exceptional patient care within scope of practice, experience, and knowledge base
  • Serve as an integral part of the HealthReach team to facilitate the provision of high-quality medical services for patients
  • Document and manage pertinent information in our electronic medical records (EMR) system (Athenahealth)
  • Treat all patients with dignity and respect and ensure patient confidentiality
  • Attend all clinical team meetings and other meetings as deemed appropriate by Executive Director
  • Act as an ambassador for HealthReach and provide awareness of our services to the community
  • Perform other related duties as necessary and as directed by the Charge Nurse, Medical Director, and/or Executive Director

Job Qualifications:

  • Active credentials/licensure as a phlebotomist, RN, LPN, CMA, RMA, or CNA
  • A minimum of two years' experience in as a phlebotomist or lab manager
  • Ability to communicate fluently in both English and Spanish preferred
  • A commitment to charitable healthcare and serving individuals with limited means
  • Experience with an EMR system
  • Current CPR certification

Skills, Abilities, and Attributes:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to be flexible and accommodate change
  • Good judgment and the ability to remain calm when confronted with stressful situations
  • Prior experience working with low-income or otherwise vulnerable individuals and families; previous exposure to a free clinic preferred
  • Dependable, punctual, and flexible
  • Experience with an electronic medical records system or practice management system strongly preferred
  • Experience working with volunteers a plus
  • Commitment to working as a team player
