The Healthcare Services Group (HSG) Family of Companies provides medical professional and general liability insurance protection to Missouri hospitals, medical groups and healthcare providers. HSG is looking for a smart, motivated and confident individual to join the Claims Management Team.

Responsibilities:

In the role of Claim Counsel, you will be responsible for evaluating, managing and resolving complex medical professional liability and general liability claims. Your day-to-day duties will include:

· Screening events reported to the company to determine if a covered claim has been made under the terms and conditions of the applicable policy of insurance

· Establishing, monitoring and recommending changes to indemnity and expense reserves on assigned claim files

· Assigning claim files to and supervising outside defense counsel, adjusters, and investigators

· Appropriately documenting claim files

· Evaluating liability and exposure in assigned claim files

· Proactively managing claim resolution, including formation and implementation of resolution strategy

· Actively participating in mediations

· Managing allocated loss adjustment expenses

· Attending mediations and trials

· Assisting insured healthcare providers and healthcare entities with legal questions involving health care law

· Designing and delivering educational programs to insured medical providers regarding health care law matters

Required Qualifications:

· Minimum of a four-year undergraduate degree

· Effective written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and direction

· Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills

· Ability to multi-task

· Ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative virtual office environment

· Strong interpersonal skills

· A desire and willingness to learn

· Willingness to do some in-state travel (rarely overnight)

· Computer literacy

· Reside in Missouri, Kansas or Illinois

Desired:

· Juris doctorate degree

· Three years claims supervision experience or litigation experience in medical professional liability and general liability

· Knowledge of local and national healthcare standards and regulations

· Strong negotiation skills

Job Location: Hybrid working model. Our team largely works remotely from our homes, but we do enjoy some in-office collaboration time. For many team members, 80% or more of their work hours are performed remotely. Our office is located at 4700 Country Club Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65109.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $125,000. Salary considerations include the candidate’s qualification and experience.
