GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision of the Development Director and according to The Health Trust’s (THT) general policies and procedures, the senior grants writter will be responsible for prospect research, proposal writing and funder reports; managing annual submission and reporting schedules; coordinating with program, finance and development staff on funding requests and reports, and stewardship and communication with funders. This position is a key member of the Development Team and manages the development and implementation of funding requests and other related functions to support annual goals for corporate, foundation and government revenues for The Health Trust.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take lead to identify, recommend and secure grants for new and existing programs and initiatives across all programmatic work in collaboration with departmental leadership.
  • Communicate regularly with staff about funded projects and participate in program discussion to develop ideas and strategies for developing new prospects and programs or activities.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge and understanding of program operations, needs and community impact. 
  • Project management of all aspects of the proposal preparation and submission process including working with the CEO, Development Director, finance and program teams to develop and articulate specific funding needs and prepare and write proposals, budgets, work plans and all required documentation.
  • Develop and provide project management tools and communication resources for agency staff. 
  • Coordinate and monitor that all proposal and reporting components are being addressed by relevant staff in order to meet internal and final deadlines.
  • Lead and collaborate with program staff to compile written reports of grant deliverables and expenditures.
  • Actively participate in learning THT operations, inclusive of obtaining a detailed understanding of THT programs.
  • Create and manage annual foundation and government proposal submission and reporting schedules.
  • Track and manage the receipt and acknowledgment of foundation and government grants.
  • Build and maintain funding strategies including individual and multi-year in collaboration with the Development Director. Assist in annual budgeting and fundraising goals for grants.
  • Create and maintain shared work plans, task lists and virtual file storage systems. 
  • Research prospective institutional partners and cultivate new partnerships.
  • Steward institutional supporters throughout the year.
  • Build and maintain a central data storehouse of general information required for all program grants, inclusive of client demographics, clients served, program outcomes etc.
  • Advise and assist with usage of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge software as related to coding and recording grant funding in collaboration with the Development Associate.
  • Maintains all HIPAA standards of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience crafting complex funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Government grant experience preferred. 
  • Experience in writing successful government grants, including local, state, and federal grants preferred.
  • Experience with local corporate philanthropy, private foundations, and grantmaking preferred.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY

  • Proven track record of working effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, deadline driven environment. Must be able to multitask with strong attention to detail and be adaptable to change with minimal oversight.
  • Experience and proficiency with fundraising research and submission strategies.
  • Ability to conceive, plan, and execute a grants strategy that includes corporate and private foundations, institutional partners, and government funders.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure and work independently with initiative, persistence and excellent follow through.
  • Superior writing skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare proposals, budgets and report outcomes for a wide variety of projects.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects with limited time.
  • Excellent problem solving and planning skills, with a focus on quality and accuracy. 
  • High level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultures, ages and economic backgrounds in a culturally competent and sensitive manner. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Google products.
  • Demonstrated strong teamwork and people skills, with ability to develop productive relationships.
  • Ability to model and communicate the mission of The Health Trust and support a culture of empowerment and team support.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature.
  • Local travel required.
  • Car available for daily use with valid driver’s license and automobile insurance as required by the State of California.
  • Employment background screening required.
