Position Description: NACHW is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to unify the voices of the community health workers (CHWs) across geography, ethnicity, sector and experience and strengthen this professions capacity to promote healthy communities. NACHW has membership in 48 states.
Community Health Workers (CHWs) are frontline trusted public health workers with close relationships to and understanding of the community where they deliver services. CHWs serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and their community to help access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery. CHWs build community capacity through activities like outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support, navigation, service coordination and advocacy.
Our strategic priorities include mobilizing community health workers, CHW (Community Health Worker) professional development and leadership, individual and organizational capacity building, and advancing policies on behalf of the CHW workforce. NACHW was launched in 2019 by a dedicated group of CHWs and allies from across the country.

    Opportunity:
    NACHW is looking for a passionate and self-motivated Leadership Advancement Coordinator to help us advance the professional identity, policy and organizational leadership and capacity of Community Health Workers, the CHW Networks and NACHW partners. The Leadership Advancement Coordinator (LAC) is an essential part of the NACHWs national team. Reporting to the Leadership Development Manager, the LAC increases the capacity of CHWs, CHW Networks, public health organizations, health departments, and national partner agencies to understand, engage, and use innovative strategies and best practice to effectively amplify, integrate and partner with communities across the United States. This is an exempt, full-time position with a salary range of $45,000 50,000 based on skills and experience.
    The Leadership Advancement Coordinator will be an individual with experience working with and providing services for CHWs and community-based organizations, health clinics or health departments, and with ability to coordinate in-person and web-based training, project coordination, curriculum development, public health communications, community engagement, behavioral health, and/or infectious diseases.
    This individual will engage regularly with staff, members, and state and local leaders of community-based or public health organizations, and other stakeholders; serve as a trusted NACHW liaison to CHW training sites and CHW Networks, community-based, faith-based, or other public health and health care organizations to assess needs and opportunities for capacity building support; solicit individual and organizational member and stakeholder feedback on challenges to share with the team and project partners to guide ongoing and future program implementation. Activities will include presentations at state conferences and on webinars, building capacity initiatives with national partners and monitoring capacity building successes based on member and stakeholder goals.
    The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to anti-racist, anti-oppression work that fight for NACHW core values of self-determination, self-actualization, dignity, respect, social justice and equity, as well as have a strong work ethic, proven success in working collaboratively with individuals and organizations across geographies, ethnicities, sectors and lived experience. Strong group facilitation, partnership development, program planning and implementation skills are needed. This person will ideally have an associate degree in education, public health or a related field and/or at least 2 years experience as a program/project coordinator, CHW supervisor, CHW trainer, or as a Peer Supp orter.
    The LAC must be a CHW/Promotora/CHR or Peer Supporter, and/or have a strong respect for the CHW profession, racial equity, and inclusion. Further, this person should have a deep understanding of CHW history and policies, and federal and state policy development and community-based strategies for building capacity and leadership and mobilizing national CHW members. This person should be familiar with national and state leaders/agencies changing public health policy, the social determinants of health and health care access and quality. Writing samples of proposals, papers, reports or research will be asked for.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Coordinate all projects and activities under your role.
    • Work collaboratively and respectfully with NACHW staff, members and partners.
    • Develop and deliver technical assistance and education for individual members (CHWs and allies), CHW Networks/Associations, employers, state and federal government and philanthropy.
    • Create leadership advancement strategies, recommendations, and tools to advance CHW professional identity, CHW role integration, CHW Network capacity, CHW policy leadership and sustainability in local, state, and federal policy.
    • Work with CHWs to advance their knowledge, capacity and activities within their states and mobilize CHWs and allies nationally on key policy issues.
    • Serve as a liaison between NACHW and stakeholders on various advisories, think tanks or leadership advancement initiatives.
    • Coordinate data collection, research, tracking and monitoring leadership advancement needs, trends and opportunities in partnership with state and national organizations, CHW Networks and NACHW members.
    • Develop and coordinate reports and workplans;
    • Document progress of goals and aims as defined by NACHW in project management software and other platforms.
    • Write and edit materials including print and web copy for communication products and campaigns, including a monthly newsletter.
    • Engage in formative research, including conducting environmental scans and literature reviews, supporting research plan and tool development, providing interview and focus group support, develop, and lead up dissemination plans, conduct outreach for programs, and/or contribute to data analysis and report writing.
    • Provide support to the LAC and related NACHW staff as requested in support of other projects and initiatives including developing meeting agendas, taking meeting notes, drafting and sending communications, scheduling meetings, developing project workplans and timelines.
    New Business Development & Thought Leadership
    • Work with the NACHW team and HRiA staff in the new business development process as necessary including drafting, editing or supporting submission of new proposals.
    • Prepare proposals for submission, including formatting, design, packaging, and delivery.
    Management and Supervision
    • Serve as a liaison with funders; coordinate clients, vendors, and consultants (researchers, translators) and/or interns as requested.
    • Participate in staff meetings, committees, and other project workgroups

    Candidate Qualifications:
    Required:
    • Associate in education, Public Health or a related field and/or at least 2 years experience as a program/project coordinator, CHW Supervisor and Trainer, or Peer Supporter
    • Strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to coordinate many projects and tasks.
    • Strong writing, verbal communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills.
    • Experience and skills in project coordination including developing work plans and working with clients, partners, community members and a range of stakeholders.
    • Keen understanding of CHW related public health issues and policies and ability to remain current on issues and practice.
    • Commitment to and understanding of racial health equity.
    • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to travel to offsite meetings.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Flexibility and a sense of humor.
    Preferred:
    • Successful record of accomplishment in leadership advancement and engagement with CHWs and/or community-based organizations
    • Experience in facilitation and community organizing.
    • Experience working with CHWs/Promotoras/Community health representatives and other diverse coalitions and/or local governments.
    • Ability to work with a wide variety of identities and personalities.
    • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse staff and improving public health.
    • Lived experience with a willingness to demonstrate is a plu s.
    • A valid drivers license is a plus.
    • Spanish language skills are a plus.
