Deployment Readiness Counselor Job Description:

Essential Duties:

· Provide programs and services to Service members and family members before, during, and after deployment to promote a positive adjustment to deployment, family separation, family reunion, and reintegration.

· Provide deployment readiness programs and services for mobilizations, activations, and deployments lasting longer than 30 days and those happening as a unit or individually.

· Educate Service members and families about potential deployment-related challenges and the available support programs and services.

· Ensure that information regarding the long-term needs around reintegration is included as well as the services available to help manage and build skills to assist with future separations and deployments.

· Initiate services early in the deployment cycle to ensure Service members and families have adequate time to act on the information and services they receive.

· Ensure ongoing awareness and outreach, communication, activities, and events with deploying and deployed units, Service members, and families throughout all phases of deployment to promote prevention and early identification of challenges that may compromise military, personal, or family readiness.

· Assist higher headquarters in planning and coordinating resources for family assistance at deployment cycle support and steady-state readiness activities.

· When requested work closely with the FSS Commander in developing the Unit Family Care Plan program. The responsibility for creating, updating, and monitoring Family Care Plans remains with the commander and the individual Airmen and Guardians.

· Provide information (brochures, handouts, classes) that cover all aspects of deployments, including information about family care plans.

· Prepare and provide monthly newsletter and upcoming event information to families of deployed members.

· Coordinate sustainment programs or activities with leadership for deployed family events on a quarterly basis.

· Provide pre-deployment and post-deployment/reintegration briefings. Use AFFIRST to track deployment support to ensure all Deployers receive support and accurate/timely information.

· Initiate and coordinate deployment support and services with government and contractor CCEs.

· Develop exercises and implement emergency disaster response support plans. Ensure the development and implementation of written readiness response plans and its incorporation into installation operations planning to support national, local emergencies, and natural disasters.

· Ensure family members, not accompanying Service members on remote/dependent- restricted assignments, are tracked, supported and included in outreach and communication efforts.

· Assess needs, develop, control and disseminate appropriate education modules (courses, conferences, workshops, etc.), as necessary. Some modules may have been developed for currently existing courses; others may need to be developed. Some requirements

Crisis Program:

· Provide 24-hour on-call crisis management assistance as required by the 42 ABW or AU.

· In addition, provide 24-hour on-call assistance and support for mobilizations and deployments, Evacuation Reception Centers/ EFAC and evacuees during evacuations, local and national emergencies, and disaster response IAW Installation Emergency Action Plans.

· Prepare EFAC after-action reports. Informs Military, and Family Readiness Division, AFPC/DPFF, of EFAC activation and provides periodic reports on services provided, per Emergency Preparedness and Response Desk Guide.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Experience providing Military Servicemembers (Active, Reserve, National Guard), family members, and Veterans a comprehensive understanding of preparing for civilian employment, job searching, job application processes, networking, technical training opportunities, credentialing, and assistance in preparing for civilian employment and participation in technical programs and schools.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Education: Bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university with major study in social work, psychology, education, human services, sociology, counseling, behavioral science or a related field.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.35 - $28.00 per hour
