Optician - School Based Outreach
This is a full-time position during the School Year (Monday through Friday - August through May) with the months of June and July off.
All school-based employees receive 90% of a full-time rate, paid out over 12 months.
Health Partners of Western Ohio is searching for a full-time Optician for our school-based outreach program in Tiffin, Ohio. The Optician will be responsible for fitting and adjusting eyeglasses and filling contact lens prescriptions that an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist has written. The Optician will recommend specific eyewear, take measurements, and teach patients to properly wear and care for their glasses or contact lenses.

State license or certification to practice as an Optician.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Successful completion of in-house training.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
On-the-job training and experience in clinical work.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Ability to operate specialized equipment.
CPR - BLS (basic life support) required.
Strong customer services, interpersonal, sales and communication skills.
Ability to work as a team member.
Computer experience desirable.
Ability to work with a culturally diverse group of people.
Must be willing to work flexible hours as required by position.
Ability to lift 20-50 pounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
Assume quality of care for all patients.
Obtain and review patient prescriptions from Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.
Obtain patient information and measurements of the ocular area.
Recommend frames or contact lenses that suit the patient’s style, face and specifications.
Recommend specialized eyewear for sports and occupational use, inform and recommend tints and anti-reflective coatings.
Orders and dispenses glasses.
Adjust and fit frames according to the prescriptions and the patient’s specifications, as well as to suit the patient’s face.
Prepare work orders to use to manufacture the lenses.
Use specialized equipment, such as calipers, lensometers and lens gauges.
Keep an inventory on frames and contact lenses to ensure product variety and customer satisfaction.
Repair broken frames.
Educate patients on how to wear and maintain glasses and contact lenses.
Perform administrative duties, such as managing prescriptions, patient records, and insurance.
Submit necessary documentation to insurances to obtain replacement glasses as necessary.
Provide clinical support to Optometrist as permitted by state license.
Collaborate with schools to support the provision of vision services for children throughout Health Partners service areas.
Assist with set up of mobile equipment.
Document all patient care provided according to policy.
Adhere to the Health Partners of Western Ohio Integrated Health Care Philosophy.
Participate in Performance Improvement/Risk Management Program.
Utilize supplies in a cost-effective manner and has responsibility for ensuring that the vision department stays within budget.
Demonstrate effective communication skills.
Establish and maintain professional working relationship with other members of the vision care team.
Participate in continuing education and professional growth.
Maintain knowledge of, and complies with, personnel and Vision policies and procedures.
Adhere to the standards and polices of the Organizational Privacy/Security and Compliance Programs, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations (HIPAA, OSHA, OIG guidelines, other State and Federal laws).
Provide services in office and throughout community in an outreach manner.
May be responsible for driving HPWO vehicle to provide services.
Employees to follow all policies and procedures as related to company vehicle.
