Health Human Services Comm is Hiring a Chaplain III Near Richmond, TX

The Director of Chaplaincy performs (senior level) ministerial clergy work. Work involves overseeing, coordinating, and planning programs, activities, and in-service training for chaplaincy services staff; conducting religious services and education classes; and providing pastoral care and counseling to clients and client’s families. The chaplain shall deliver services directly to clients, develop and coordinate services for all campus religious activities, facilitating integrated worship and social activities. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
Works with minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment and decision making. The chaplain shall conduct duties according to state laws, board policies, Texas Administrative Code and state school policies and procedures. He/she shall have discretionary powers broad enough to accomplish his duties and responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Oversees, coordinates, and leads worship services, religious and education studies, and other programs.
  • Counsels staff members, clients and their families on religious problems, on institutional adjustments, and in time of crisis.
  • coordinates programs for the recruitment, training, and supervision of chaplaincy volunteers
  • Counsels institutional staff and conducts group seminars to communicate the religious needs of the clients for pastoral education programs.
  • Provides sacramental ministry in accordance with the practices and customs of the chaplain’s faith.
  • Makes pastoral visits to new and existing clients, individuals who are critically ill, their families and relatives.
  • Arranges for sacramental services for clients of other religious backgrounds.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Knowledge Skills Abilities:
    Knowledge of the religious beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations.
  • Skill in counseling clients and client’s families, and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
  • Ability to provide sacramental services; to develop new chaplaincy programs; to participate in community religious and welfare organizations; to communicate effectively; and to plan, religious programs beneficial to residents and their families
  • Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligation for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
  • Registration or Licensure Requirements:
    Two (2) years’ experience as an ordained or licensed minister in a parish setting or chaplaincy.
    Initial Selection Criteria:
    Must have completed High School with some college credit.
    Two (2) years’ experience working specifically with people with mental and physical disabilities in an intermediate care facility or the community preferred.
    Additional Information:
    Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities.
    Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
    All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.
    Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
