The psychiatric-mental health practitioner plays a vital role in promoting optimal mental health, as well as preventing and treating psychiatric disorders. This position involves assessing, diagnosing, and managing mental health problems and psychiatric disorders for clients through telemedicine within various HCA behavioral health services.
What will I be doing?
  • Obtain and accurately document relevant mental health histories, including evaluation of mental status, abuse history, violence, suicidal or self-harm behavior, substance use, level of functioning, health behaviors, trauma, sexual behaviors, and social/developmental history
  • Develop evidence-based treatment plans for psychiatric disorders, adhering to practice guidelines and standards of care
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications based on clinical indicators, including diagnostic and lab test results, to address symptoms of psychiatric disorders
  • Document all relevant client care issues in progress notes and treatment plans
  • Submit Prior Authorization requests for medications as needed
  • Educate and assist clients in evaluating pharmacotherapy options, potential adverse effects, and alternative treatment options
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, involving clients, family members, and team members in information gathering and treatment planning
  • Manage psychiatric issues or emergencies that arise between clinic days, determining risk levels and recommending appropriate interventions or responses
  • Advise the treatment team on the transition of care to provide continuity of care and support for clients, families, and other healthcare providers in the least restrictive manner possible
What are the qualifications?
  • PMHNP, FNP, and/or PA-C
  • Psychiatric experience, preferred
  • DEA Certification (or eligible), preferred
  • New Graduates are welcome to apply!
Knowledge of:
  • Child and Adolescent development/needs/behavior
  • Mental health diagnosis & pharmacology
  • Psychotropic medications
  • Medical protocol in prescribing psychotropic medications
  • Child and/or Adult psychopathology and diagnostic categories
  • Treatment planning and implementation, reviewing, and updating of Person-Centered Plans
  • Medical/Clinical and Medicaid documentation standards and practices
  • Interaction and Communication Strategies
  • Cultural Competence
  • Role/Purpose/Philosophy of Case Management Services
  • Knowledge of mandated reporting requirements
