Job Summary This position employs advanced analytical techniques to create and drive adoption of data-based products and processes to add business value for internal and external customers. They will use data analysis, machine learning, predictive modeling, statistics, visualization, and other data science techniques to derive actionable insights. Senior Data Scientists will leverage domain expertise and communication skills to identify data-based solutions to customer needs, and present and explain technical findings to non-technical audiences to promote data-driven decision making. They will create analytical processes for automated machine-driven decision making where human decision making is not scalable or feasible. Responsibilities * Collect, integrate, and analyze data from sources related to health status and outcomes for our members, characteristics of health care providers, internal business processes, and other domains * Perform complex statistical analysis on experimental or business data to validate and quantify trends or patterns identified by business analysts * Use machine learning and probabilistic modeling to construct predictive algorithms to support data analysis or product functions; verify model and algorithm effectiveness based on real-world results * Design experiments and methodologies to generate and collect data for business use * Create visualizations, interactive analytical applications, and interpretive artifacts to support business application of data science findings * Contribute to delivery of analytics and data science solutions * Support the production implementation of new capabilities * Maintain effective communication with management regarding development within areas of assigned responsibilities and contribute to special projects as required or requested * Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with co-workers, management, and customers * Represent team in meetings within HCSC * Take a proactive approach to learning, identifying team knowledge gaps, and sharing knowledge to advance the team’s productivity * Assume some project leadership responsibilities; work with management & business stakeholders to set and adhere to a project plan; and contribute to multiple projects in parallel Required Job Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of work experience in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field; OR Actuarial credential; OR Master’s degree and 2 years of work experience in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field; OR Ph.D. in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field; OR 7 years’ experience in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field * Strong learning and growth mindset * Customer focus * Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. * Proficiency in at least four of the following six areas: 1) data analysis and relational-style query languages; 2) machine learning and/or statistical modeling; 3) data visualization; 4) a high-level programming language; 5) distributed computing; 6) understanding of healthcare. Preferred Job Qualifications: * Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field, or bachelor's degree with significant healthcare experience * Familiar with Risk Adjustment models for Government programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, or ACA * Data Science Studio * Teradata SQL language * SAS and/or R * Python with packages such as numpy, pandas, sklearn, xgboost, and scipy * Tableau or any other dashboarding tool * Strong Excel skills for data analysis and reporting #LI-Hybrid #LI-SL1 Are you being referred to one of our roles?
