Health Care for Kids is Hiring a PRN Patient Care Technician - University, Pensacola Near Pensacola, FL

General Purpose of Position:

The Patient Care Technician serves as an aide to the RN or LPN by performing regular assignments and/or delegating responsibilities under the direction of the nurse or provider. This team member is responsible for providing patient care at a proven level of safety, depending on his or her scope of practice and degree of competence.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care
  • Prioritizes and administers basic patient care, such as toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulation, comfort measures, and other patient requirements.
  • Assists with admission, discharge, and patient transfer.
  • When responding to patient and family demands, it provides superior customer service.
  • In a timely way, reports and documents patient care data and results. Notifies the nurse immediately of any changes in the patient's condition and obtains the necessary support.
  • Depending on the unit, telemetry responsibilities may also be assigned.
  • Can serve as a patient care attendant by monitoring the patient, attending to his or her needs, and engaging other members of the patient care team as required.
  • It may be necessary, while working in a clinical unit, to transport drugs from the delivery system to the RN.
  • Infection control duties such as changing bed linens, laundry, cleaning patient supplies and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake & output measurements.
  • Lead patient developmental activities. Supervise children at play.
  • Supervision for, and care of, patients while on transport.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborates and consults with the RN and other multidisciplinary team members to provide optimal patient care.
  • Exhibits proficiency in collaboration, prioritizing, communication, and organization.
  • As delegated, performs non-nursing responsibilities (e.g., cleaning, stocking, answering phones, clerical support, providing directions).
  • As directed, implements the care plan.
  • Performs responsibilities allocated within the Scope of Practice. Performs specialized processes using validated expertise and in accordance with regulatory requirements. Promotes a safe environment by adhering to the safety policy and responding appropriately to an emergency.

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • One year experience in care of infants and toddlers, or related experience such as medical technician training or emergency medical technician.
  • Annual Pediatric CPR certification

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Employees must always be able to view and read labels, evaluate patient requirements, use monitors, and recognize supplies and equipment.
  • Regular encounters with patients, visitors, and caregivers that call for the employee to vocally communicate as well as promptly and correctly hear and comprehend spoken information, alarms, requests, and problems, especially in emergency circumstances.
  • The ability to manage delicate and complicated equipment with dexterity in one's hands and fingers. This involves often typing on a computer to record patient care, obtain information, prepare medications, etc.
  • Frequent lifting/bending/stooping and moving/hoisting of patients and supplies using their complete range of motion.
  • Must be able to walk and help carry patients, get supplies, and distribute equipment. Stretchers and other portable equipment, including heavy objects.
  • Frequent sitting and standing.
