Applications Engineer - Remote Sensing Products

Headwall Photonics, a global leader in hyperspectral sensor technology, is looking for an Applications Engineer to join our innovative team. We're dedicated to pushing the boundaries of spectral technology and integrating our products seamlessly into customer workflows. This role focuses on supporting the development and enhancement of applications for our hyperspectral sensors. The right candidate will have a foundational understanding of algorithm building, basic troubleshooting skills, and a drive to contribute to meaningful user experiences. You'll collaborate with product management, sales, marketing, and customers, playing a supportive role in realizing our company strategy.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist in the design and development of applications for hyperspectral sensors used in unmanned and manned aircraft.
• Participate in feasibility studies and support prototype development for various applications.
• Help analyze user requirements and contribute to developing functional solutions.
• Work alongside cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and system engineers, for effective integration of our hyperspectral sensors.
• Assist in performance testing and troubleshooting to support system operation.
• Provide basic technical support to clients, including training and troubleshooting.
• Keep informed about developments in hyperspectral imaging, drones, and related fields.
• Support in preparing and delivering technical presentations and demos to clients and at industry events.

Required Skills & Experience:

• BS or MS in Chemistry, Physical Sciences, or Engineering with 2 years in a similar role.
• Basic knowledge in image processing, remote sensing, data analysis, and classification algorithms.
• Proficiency in programming languages like Python, C , or MATLAB.
• Good problem-solving abilities and technical skills.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team.
• Positive attitude and willingness to contribute actively to the team and department.
• Ability to travel as required (up to 15% of the time), including potential international travel. Flexibility to work outside core hours when necessary.

Desired Skills & Experience:

• Understanding of hyperspectral imaging principles.
• Familiarity with hyperspectral imaging software such as ENVI and MATLAB.
• Basic knowledge of imaging system characterization, image quality, and performance metrics.
• Exposure to algorithm development for signal/pattern recognition and image data manipulation.
• Awareness of airborne imaging applications and spectral libraries.
