Job Summary and Qualifications

Assists in the delivery of medically prescribed Physical Therapy in support of medical care as directed by the primary physician and established by the Physical Therapist. Utilizes the written and otherwise communicated plan of care to deliver Physical Therapy services. Works with patients of all ages, race, creed, gender, and disability without bias or prejudice. Acts as a member of the interdisciplinary team in helping the patients and their families achieve the highest level of functioning. Supervises and instructs Rehab Techs/Aides/Restorative Techs in regards to Physical Therapy Services. Performs all job duties and tasks in accordance with national and state professional governing guidelines and state practice act, rules, and code of ethics.


What You Will Do In This Role:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills for treatment of a wide variety of diagnostic groups.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide services for a wide variety of age groups.
  • Performs patient screens to collect uniform information about patients using predetermined standardized format, and delivers to supervising PT for determination of screen recommendations.
  • Provides teaching according to the patient’s/family’s specific needs and plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, and documents on the interdisciplinary teaching record.
  • Identifies changes in patient status and advises primary therapist, recommending re-evaluation and/or treatment plan update, to meet the established goals.
  • Accepts responsibility for the patient's personal care and environment throughout the treatment.
  • Maintains awareness of own limitations and seeks guidance from appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Completes timely and consistent entry of progress notes and charges. Billing is accurate to minutes recorded and to guideline descriptions.
  • Documentation consistently reflects established department policies and current quality indicators: Daily notes reflect plan of care that is concise and specific, yet within the scope of the Physical Therapist’s plan of care. a.Adheres to hospital-approved abbreviation policy. b.Completes functional status and other discharge information on the discharge summary and delivers to the supervising PT for content and validity verification.
  • Consistently participates actively in established departmental and housewide performance improvement activities, to include use of hospital-approved abbreviations. Participates in core measure initiatives and assists in data collection as directed by management.
  • Practices cost-efficiency.
  • Communicates client information with physicians, nurses, case managers, ancillary staff, patients, and family members to fulfill position responsibilities. You will evaluate patients who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes, and synthesize the data to establish a plan of care with therapeutic interventions and goals appropriate to patient’s age and development.

What Qualifications You Will Need:

  • Associate degree from a Physical Therapist Assistant program that has been accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Minimum of one year of experience preferred.
  • Licensed as an Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of Texas.
  • Current CPR certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must be able to work weekends.
