The University of Miami Health System is initiating a search for a Family Medicine Staff Physician.
Physician reports directly to the Chairperson for Family Medicine and is primarily responsible for the provision of high quality medical/cardiac care to our patients. This staff physician will be located at the UHealth at Kendall location. This position is 100% clinical, with 9 clinic sessions per week. This position will be responsible for a patient panel distributed by 50% managed services organization) MSO patients and 50% commercial patients. The physician is expected to meet key performance indicators as mandated by the MSO program.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Provide clinical care in 9 clinic sessions per week, patient panel distribution: 50% MSO, 50% Commercial
  • Provide all physician care generally provided at a primary care facility.
  • Actively manage all aspects of patient care while on shift.
  • Supervise and direct the center's other clinical staff (Medical Assistants, etc.).
  • Collect biological specimens and process them in the laboratory for testing.
  • Ensure that all charts and medical records are accurately completed in a timely manner; and adhere to all clinical policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the delivery of care, treatment, and referrals. Arrange for referral resources for those medical specialties not provided at the primary care clinic.
  • Evaluate patients, based on medical training and/or specialty, to determine the medical condition of the patient, through the performance of physical examinations, thereby, establishing a diagnosis and proposed treatment plan.
  • Maintain high standard of medical practice and participate in the training development of the medical team.
  • Assist in medical education of both the patients and clinic staff.
  • Facilitates the patient's transition within and between health care settings; refer and transfer patients for follow-up and/or specialty care and discharge patients.
  • As a member of the health care team, exemplify an example in attitude toward patients and staff, thereby, performing duties with respect, dignity, privacy, and modesty to the patients.
  • Participate in the development of clinic protocols and formulary. Make recommendations, suggestions, etc., on chart information forms.
  • Document each on site/in office procedure, prescription, consultation and patient contact in patient's chart and on the clinic's encounter forms, within a 24-hour period.
  • Counsel patient regarding medical and other problems which might affect patient's health and well-being.
  • Perform such clinical procedures for patient's benefit which are within scope and skill of practitioner/specialist and which are economically feasible.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the clinic's medical support staff, with regard to the administering of a patient's care.
  • Provide supervision in case assignment to nurse practitioner/physician assistant, including sign off on charts, where applicable.
  • Perform other job related duties, as may be assigned, by the Chairman of Family Medicine.
MSO Medical Director
After six months of tenure with adequate progress, the incumbent is eligible to transition to the administrative role of Medical Director of the MSO program. The responsibilities of the MSO Medical Director are as follows:
  • Directs, coordinates, and oversees patient care within a defined clinical practice of the University: Kendall outpatient office for the Medicare Advantage (MSO) population; provides supervision, mentoring, training and development to clinical staff.
  • Serves as a member of the MSO physician leadership group, and participates in the development and oversight of organizational policies, procedures, business model, and strategies to improve population health initiatives.
  • Reviews, establishes, and maintains patient care protocol and standards, ensuring that all federal and State policies, regulations, and guidelines for patient care are met; establishes and coordinates quality improvement, safety, and infection control programs.
  • Participates in development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, short- and long-range planning for the unit(s) of oversight; develops tracking and evaluation programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
  • Ensures that providers have adequate continuing medical and other relevant education.
  • Collaborates with other clinical/medical managers in the delivery of quality patient care, maintenance of clinical documentation, integration of electronic health records, and handling of complaints and/or medical emergencies.
  • Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population.
  • Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
  • Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Credentials:
  • Doctoral Degree (MD, DO,), Florida Physician License required.
  • Three years of experience in area of Family Medicine.
  • Graduation from ACGME Family Medicine Residency Program
  • Board certification in Family Medicine.
  • Current active state and federal DEA license
  • Current CPR Certification
