Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Emergency Services (ES) Transport EMT will operate on the EMS Transport Services’ Team. The primary duty of the ES Transport EMT will be to assist the Paramedic in rendering safe and effective treatment and transport of patients on the EMS Transport Services’ ambulance. The ES Transport EMT will respond to EMS Call-Center requests, coordinate with other healthcare providers, and facilitate transport appropriately.

As needed, the ES Transport EMT will function within the free standing Emergency Departments and the main Emergency Department. While working in the Emergency Department, the ES EMT will provide quality care to patients under the direction of a Paramedic or RN, in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives. The ES EMT will perform all duties identified in their job description, approved Medical Protocols, and departmental policy.

Skills will be validated by competency assessments under the License of the EMS Medical Director. The ES EMT will report to the Chief of EMS Operations. They will serve as a member of the Healthcare team through active communication; documentation; feedback and assistance as needed or requested. The ES Transport EMT will attend meetings, education opportunities, and in-services as required by departmental policy, and contribute to the growth and development of their self and the EMS Transport Services’ Team. The ES EMT will maintain good working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance
  • Ensures readiness of ambulance and all associated equipment for service, and performs stocking as needed
  • Maintains cleanliness of interior and exterior of ambulance and EMS equipment
  • Responds to EMS Transport Services requests for the transport of patients from facilities
  • Provides care in the out of hospital setting, serving as the secondary provider and assistant to the Paramedic or other healthcare provider during interfacility transports
  • Provides primary patient care activities on transports approved to be at the BLS level by the attending physician or EMS Medical Director
  • Assesses, plans, implements intervention, and evaluates the appropriate level of patient care according to Florida BLS scope of practice, EMS Protocols, and emergency department policies and procedures
  • Maintains competence in thorough patient care documentation and use of both EMS PCR and ED software
  • Performs EMS hand off reports at facility destinations and reports appropriately to Paramedics, nursing staff, and ED Physicians
  • Attends meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of intermediate patient care, to include vital signs, venipuncture, urinary catheterization, cardiac monitoring, and 12 lead EKG.
  • Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, qualify of care or the services delivered.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • EVOC-Emergency Vehicle Operations Course must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • Associate Degree, or Certificate
