SUMMARY: The Sheet Metal Mechanic works primarily in a construction setting on projects for new buildings and existing building fit outs. Having knowledge of a commercial building’s air distribution system is a must. Performs related work as assigned. The more diverse a person's experience the more valuable they will be to the team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Installation of commercial sheet metal and HVAC equipment.
• Perform appropriate communication with co-workers and customers.
• Operating knowledge of sheet metal systems and efficient use of trade tools.
• Knowledge and understanding of SMACNA.
• Must provide all own hand tools.
• Promotes preventive maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of the safe use of hazardous materials, solvents, cleaners, adhesives.
• Ability to perform math computations needed in the trade.
• Personal computer, tablet, and smart phone skills.
• Ability to perform and knowledge of all types of duct systems including sheet metal, flexible duct, duct socks, and occasionally duct board.
• Ability to layout ductwork and equipment from prints.
• At times, lead other employees to complete tasks and achieve goals.
• Develop the skills of apprentices while working with them.
• Ability to read and interpret, blueprints, cut sheets, sketches, and schematics.
• Ability to promote and follow building, job site and department procedures and policies.
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator. Perform all work within OSHA guidelines.
• Ability to work independently and accurately with little direction.
• Promote a healthy work culture.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma, completion of G.E.D.
• Equivalent technical school or work experience.
• Criminal background check required for hire.
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record required.
• Three or more years of experience specific to the commercial sheet metal industry.
• Scissor lift, boom lift, and rough terrain forklift certification and/or the ability to become certified through the company.
• Knowledge and experience with some aspects of the plumbing side is a plus.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in all areas of certifications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
