POSITION TITLE: General Maintenance
REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs manual tasks which require some, but not a high degree of, manipulative skill; including grass cutting, pick-up and delivering tasks, general repair/maintenance of lawn, field and construction equipment, and assisting skilled craftsmen.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Essential Functions
  • Performs general maintenance tasks in accordance with general practices of such.
  • Cuts grass, trims trees and bushes, plows snow, and maintains building landscaping, athletic and parking areas in a safe and attractive manner.
  • Operates heavy machinery for landscaping and maintenance projects.
  • Moves items and equipment within buildings and between District buildings.
  • Performs pick-up and delivery tasks between District buildings.
  • Maintains mechanical and motorized equipment per instructions from supervisor(s).
  • Performs all general maintenance and related duties in a conscientious and safe manner.
  • Performs general upkeep and maintenance of department equipment.
  • May assist skilled trades with various jobs related to their trade.
  • May assist with assembly of furniture and/or fixtures at district buildings, as required.
Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
  • Standing, walking, sitting, balancing, stooping or crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing, grasping, feeling, talking.
  • Normal attention: with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, depth perception, and ability to ID and distinguish colors.
  • Moderate to heavy physical demand with regular lifting of light (1 to 25 ) items by hand and lifting of average to heavy items (25 lbs. to over 60 lbs.) by hand or with mechanical assistance.
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
Subject to both inside and outside working conditions, with some exposure to a variety of physical hazards such as proximity to electrical current and/or moving mechanical parts, as well as adverse atmospheric conditions with some present to the extent of being disagreeable. May be required to wear a respirator. Travel between buildings and on pick-up and delivery assignments required.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Knowledge of general maintenance practices and use of basic tools and equipment requiring basic skills knowledge. Equivalent to graduation from a general or technical high school.
Experience: Requires a minimum of one year up to and including three years of experience in general building maintenance and repair or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out one or two-step instructions. Deal with standardized situations with occasional or no variables in or from these situations encountered on the job.
  • Add and subtract two digit numbers. Perform basic arithmetic.
  • Reading, writing, and speaking at a basic level.
Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
Computer and related software, variety of electric powered and hand tools.
