Role Purpose:

Analyze, implement and maintain a safety & environmental plan aligning with Company policy and a compliance program ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

Education: HS Grad/equivalent. BS in Occupational Safety and Health (Preferred).

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Safety & Environmental (Required).

Areas of Knowledge: Working knowledge of OSHA regulations. OSHA 30 Certificate. Applicable State, Local & Federal regulations. (P) ISO 14001 and OHSAS 1800 I. DOT Hazardous Materials. RCRA Hazardous Waste. Working knowledge of Louisiana Worker’s Compensation. Storm Pollution Prevention. Air Quality Permitting and Wastewater Treatment. Effective management methods. Understands manufacturing processes. 

Skills: Computer literate, organized, good written & verbal communication and able to work with multiple levels throughout the organization & to work with outside agencies (such as OSHA and EPA). CPR and First Aid Certified.

Primary Responsibilities:

Training: Design and implement programs to meet all regulated needs and modify necessary programs to ensure a safe and healthy working Provide materials for Monthly Safety meetings and also attend departmental safety meetings. Conduct new hire safety orientations, along with distribution of proper PPE for all employees. Train and develop the Emergency Response Team, along with development of team members and their knowledge as it relates to the facility. Verify and coordinate all certifications required by employees including but not limited to: confined space, JLG, Overhead Cranes, Forklifts, Hazmat and Hazwoper. Conduct contractor/vendor safety/orientation briefings. Interact with corporate Safety & Environmental departments. This role has direct reports, including an EHS Assistant and Wastewater Treatment Operators. 

Compliance: Safety & Environmental - Maintain OSHA required records, training and regulations to comply with standard. Assure ATPF meet regulations on DMR's and keep permits up to date. Conduct Safety & Environmental briefings. Manage the internal safety audit on a quarterly basis. Interface with auditors and provide documentation and assistance during both internal and external audits.

Assistance: Provide necessary guidance to employees, supervision and management on regulations, laws and best practices involving safety & environmental issues. Perform daily observations of plant grounds, wastewater treatment area, dike's, containment areas, holding tanks, make recommendations on how to streamline and improve procedures and advancements as it relates to Safety & Environmental.

Education: Track changes to safety & environmental rules, regulations and Manage the OHM system as it relates to both Safety & Environmental incidents and tracking. Report all necessary statistics and information to the General Manager and Corporate as needed and in a timely manner.

Outside Vendors: Work with Worker's Compensation carrier to strengthen current safety programs and update as needed. Work with carrier to assure employees return to work as soon as medically practical following an accident. Work with HR department on Worker's Compensation issues. Work with designated medical program on all billing and scheduling as it relates to safety & environmental needs, maintain relationship with all outside vendors included but not limited to: Fire Extinguisher Inspectors, First Aid & Medical Supply, Local and State officials as it relates to Environmental incidents/issues, PPE supplier, Hazardous Waste removal companies. etc.
