ABOUT THE JOB

Working primarily in a laboratory setting performing analyses on food products and the associated applications and development of Hawkins food ingredients. We are looking for a paid Summer 2024 intern for a 10-12 week session.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support for Hawkins Food Ingredients Group
• Perform analyses in a laboratory setting on factors which generally influence food flavor, texture, microbial shelf life, and oxidative stability, among others. Also, conduct analytical testing in a lab setting including but not limited to HPLC, ICP-OES.
• Provide support for product documentation, including but not limited to, work instructions, manufacturing specs, product specs, testing procedures, and other documentation as needed
• Provide field support for customer plant trials, evaluations, and trouble-shooting

ABOUT YOU

• Bachelor of Science in a technical field (i.e. Food Engineering, Food Chemistry, Food/Meat/Animal Science, Food Microbiology, or related field) required * Understanding of chemicals and the manufacturing processes preferred.
• Familiarity with meat/food processing, food safety, and microbiological methods.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Must demonstrate active listening, problem solving, and relationship skills.
• Must demonstrate the ability to work independently.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to quickly learn and understand new computer software as it pertains to job requirements.
• Familiarity with various production/laboratory instrumentation; trouble shooting, training, start up, validation, maintenance. This will include but isn't limited to microbiological methods, HPLC, ICP-OES, pH-conductivity, spectrophotometers, and auto-titration systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

TRAVEL

Limited travel may be required to support field testing.
