BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P CM METER READING Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 2 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)

JOB FUNCTION:

Reads electric meters, including demand meters in the field, records readings, compares consumption, and observes and reports unusual and irregular conditions, and changes time-of-use cartridges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Fundamental Responsibilities:

  • Changes time-of-use cartridges.
  • Locates meters according to address and location code and special instruction. Reads kilowatt-hour, reactive kilowatt-hour and indicating demand meters and records readings in designated manner. Breaks seal on demand meter, resets indicator, and reseals meter.
  • Observes and records: unusual consumption, consumption on locked meters, excessive demand, irregular wiring, damaged or hazardous metering facilities, flat connections or diversion, unrecorded meters, missing seals, and other unusual or irregular conditions. Reseals any unsealed meter where meter is accessible. Detects and corrects accounts which are not in proper reading order and indicates proper location of such accounts in the reading sequence. Submits daily report of conditions noted above.
  • Provides routine information such as billing period or where payments may be made to customers contacted while reading meters. Refers customers to appropriate Customer Service Department personnel for other than routine information. Reports any special requests made by customers for follow-up by other Customer Service Department personnel.
  • Must be able to access meters on designated meter route.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Periodically performs pickups.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
  • Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Support & Administrative Selection System (SASS).

Note: Employees who have taken and passed the General Clerical Test (GCT) do not need to take the SASS.

  • Must pass the SRA Oral & Written Directions Test
  • Must have or be able to qualify for State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions as stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.
  • Must be physically qualified to walk a meter route and life a 5-foot ladder (to be determined by Company administered test).

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday

Work Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Location: Honolulu – Oahu

Wage: $25.69 – $34.27
