Maui High School is located in Kahului, Maui and serves the central and southeastern districts of the island. The central district is an established, working class, suburban community of residences, small businesses, and light industry. The southeastern district is a newly built and generally transient community surrounded by large resorts and hotels. We have an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student population.
Maui High School opened in 1913 in the community of Hamakuapoko, on the north shore. It was the first academic high school on the island and had an initial enrollment of sixteen students. In 1972, the present Maui High School campus opened in the heart of central Maui. We now serve approximately 2000 students.
We offer extensive and varied programs for students in grades 9-12. Our school is driven by 10 Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways where students select and complete a course of study within the school curriculum.
These include: Education, Health Services, Building & Construction, Information Technology & Digital Transformation, Arts & Communication, Business Management Finance & Marketing, Architectural Design & Engineering Technology, Agriculture Food & Natural Resources, Hospitality Tourism & Recreation and finally, Transportation Services.
In addition, we are an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determinism) Certified School and many of our teachers are AVID trained. Lastly, we offer open enrollment for our numerous Advanced Placement courses and are growing our Dual Enrollment course selection, which affords students the chance to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously.

Minimum Qualifications

The Hawaii State Department of Education is committed to hiring highly qualified teachers in every classroom. With the exception of designated Career and Technology Education (CTE) positions, the minimum qualification to apply for a teacher, librarian or counselor position is a Bachelor's Degree.
If you are hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. You must enroll in a Program to continue employment with the Department. Within each year of employment, you must satisfactorily demonstrate active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements, as set forth by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). It is your responsibility to ensure the program you have enrolled is aligned with the teaching line you are hired in.
Upon hire you will need to have a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit. You may apply for your Hawaii teaching license on the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board Website (https://hawaiiteacherstandardsboard.org/).
