Havenwyck Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Lead Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist CTRS to join our team of compassionate, dedicated professionals.

The Lead CTRS is responsible for provision of Recreational Therapy services, including assessments, treatment planning, therapeutic activity interventions and discharge leisure planning. The Lead CTRS utilizes individual and/or group activity interventions to bring about positive changes in the client’s behavior, be-in cognitive, social, emotional or physical. The Lead CTRS educates the client in healthy coping skills, and available leisure resources to continue the client in post-discharge leisure planning and involvement. The Lead CTRS will be responsible for the provision of services according to the current standards of practice.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Establishes treatment goals and objectives to meet individual needs of clients, and determines the TR Modality by which the goals are achieved.
  • Evaluates each client’s progress and the effectiveness of therapy treatment, records results on daily progress notes and follows all documentation policies.
  • Develops and applies clinical skills by interviewing and assessing client’s level of functioning; observing patient participation in RT/TR sessions and their response to the same.
  • Attends treatment team conferences to exchange information and observations with other members of the team, as well as assisting with the completion of the initial Treatment Plan and Treatment Plan Progress Summary updates.
  • Assists RT Manager in interviewing and hiring.
  • Evaluates all RT staff with the assistance of the RT Manager.
  • Assists with daily clinical duties and schedules RT staff, flexes staffing as needed.
  • Provides supervision and training to students and other RT staff.
  • Records goals and interventions that are pertinent to the RT/TR on the MTP. Completes discharge Leisure Section in a timely fashion.
  • Involved in implementing individual treatment plans for clients using the interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Educates/counsels clients in regards to their personal leisure lifestyle and creates an awareness of leisure resources in their own community, as well as focusing on family/social involvement.
  • Educates clients in regards to healthy coping skills and how to use recreation and leisure to assist in coping and recovery.
  • Coordinates individual and group activities using the TR Modality working on related goals (i.e. fine motor skills, increased socialization, decreased frustration tolerance, work skills, emotional and affective responses, interests, improved focus and concentration and interpersonal relationships.
  • Shows initiative in implementing new treatment programs on an ongoing basis relating to any changes in the mental health field.
  • Keeps RT Manager appraised of any difficulties or necessary changes required in program or staff development
  • Instructs clients in proper use of equipment and supplies used during treatment sessions, following appropriate protocol.
  • Follows hospital policy on patient precautions related to RT.
  • Completes safety rounds checklist.
  • Prepares request for supplies and equipment used during treatment sessions, following appropriate protocol.
  • Provides in-services on an as-needed basis, in area of expertise, to hospital staff.
  • Provides in-services to other RT staff in an area assigned by the RT Manager.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) required.
  • Bachelor Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an approved program required.
  • Certification by National Certification Board (NCTRC) required.
  • Two (2) years clinical experience required; psychiatric experience preferred.
  • Employee must be in good standing (evaluation/employment history, corrective action, etc.) to be considered for internal transfer.
