Job Summary:

The Tri-M Advisor is responsible for guiding and supporting members of the society in their pursuit of musical excellence, leadership, and service. They oversee the society's day-to-day operations, including planning and executing events, maintaining financial records, and promoting a positive and inclusive environment. The advisor collaborates with students, staff, and parents to ensure the success and growth of the society while upholding its values and standards. They serve as mentor, role models, and advocates for Tri-M members, fostering their passion for music and commitment to academic achievement and community engagement.

Qualifications:

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required

Evaluation:

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the Evaluation of Staff.

Terms of Employment:

This is a Code 1 stipend, as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The term may be extended annually pending the review of school needs and the evaluation process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops a philosophy for student conduct while participating in the Tri-M Music Honor Society, promoting a culture of respect, collaboration, and dedication to musical excellence.

  • Maintains a high-interest, balanced program to meet Tri-M members' musical and academic needs throughout the year, including opportunities for performance, service, and leadership development.

  • Serves as a role model for Tri-M members, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm for music education.

  • Interacts positively and supportively with Tri-M members, school staff, parents, and the wider community, fostering positive relationships and collaboration.

  • Supervises and assists Tri-M members effectively in planning and executing activities, events, and service projects.

  • Promotes good public relations for the Tri-M Music Honor Society through personal appearance, attitude, and communication with stakeholders.

  • Establishes dates, times, and places of Tri-M events and activities, seeking administrative approval and ensuring placement on the school calendar.

  • Collaborates with Tri-M members to set goals for the society's activities, aligning them with the mission and values of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

  • Plans and implements appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of Tri-M members' musical interests and needs.

  • Schedules, coordinates, and supervises all Tri-M Music Honor Society fundraising projects, ensuring compliance with School Committee Fundraising Policies.

  • Maintains accurate financial records regarding Tri-M fundraising activities, including income, expenses, and budget allocations.

  • Manages a working budget for the Tri-M Music Honor Society and follows appropriate district protocol for financial management.

  • Enforces weekly academic eligibility requirements provided by the administration for Tri-M members, ensuring academic success remains a priority.

  • Interacts with administration and presents information about Tri-M activities and achievements as requested, advocating for the society's interests and needs.

  • Arranges necessary transportation and supervision for off-campus Tri-M events and activities, prioritizing student safety and well-being.

  • Offers leadership and direction to Tri-M members, empowering them to take ownership of their musical education and community engagement.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate a record of effectiveness in their own teaching
  • Must demonstrate and model a positive attitude
  • Must enjoy working with students
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with others

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Depending on the class/student assignment, the employee may occasionally lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Repetitive bending at the waist, kneeling, stooping, and crouching to assist students is also required. Employees may reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
