Ariadne Labs is a joint center for health systems innovation at Brigham and Womens Hospital and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Our goal is to drive scalable solutions for better care at critical moments in peoples lives everywhere. Better care means better health outcomes, lower costs, and more actual caring. Critical means solving health systems failures that have major impact, typically touching people by the millions. Ariadne Labs currently has research programs in the areas of childbirth, surgery, palliative care, and primary health care.

Overview of the Program

The vision of the Delivery Decisions Initiative (DDI) at Ariadne Labs is a world in which every person can choose to start or grow their family with dignity. During the universally vulnerable period in peoples lives that spans pregnancy to parenthood, families deserve care that is safe, supportive and empowering. We draw from a broad range of expertise to bring systems thinking to this challenge.

The DDI team currently includes the Program Director, Associate Faculty, Design Lead, Research Manager, Research Assistants, Project Coordinator, Administrative Assistant, post-doctoral fellows, and both graduate and undergraduate students. We additionally collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders across the world. We anticipate significant growth, especially with our flagship TeamBirth projects, and this role will be central to supporting the management of the portfolio.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

Overview of the Role

The Assistant Director of Project Management is responsible for helping build the right capacities within our program at the right pace, while also ensuring our committed work is delivered with excellence: on time, on budget, on scope, and with the highest possible quality. The Assistant Director continually assesses and defines program needs, and in partnership with the Program Director is responsible for stewarding finances, developing and securing key partnerships and investments, and identifying and recruiting needed talent.

The Assistant Director will serve as a strategic thought partner for the DDI leadership team, and will have primary responsibility for executing scientific and implementation projects, providing day to day leadership to the DDI team, directly managing project staff, and working across projects and functions to ensure coordination and operational efficiency. They will play a key role in guiding professional development of more junior team members in a manner that mirrors our mission and core values.

When determined by the Director, the Assistant Director will also represent the Program and the DDI leadership in meetings within Ariadne Labs and with external partners. The Assistant Director will also support the team in identifying and applying for additional investment to support ongoing and new projects.

Internally and externally, this person is a manager of people and process. This position requires an individual who is skilled at working consistently and collaboratively with external partners and within Ariadne Labs matrix organization to draw in the right internal expertise at the right time to support the work of the program, e.g. Revenue and Development, Finance, Communications, Innovation, Science & Technology, Implementation, and Talent Development. This position requires occasional domestic and global travel and an ability to develop and maintain senior level external relationships through in-person and remote communication.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Business and Strategy Development:

* In collaboration with Program Director, spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective programmatic growth strategies and processes

* Partner with the appropriate teams across Ariadne to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of DDI and are in alignment with the larger organizational structures and strategy

* Work with members of Ariadne leadership to support the development of Concept Notes and Scope of Work for sponsored projects

* Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Research & Finance on budget development and staffing allocations.

* Help drive revenue strategy including cultivating external funding by creating materials and plans to identify and pursue

* Represent DDI to key stakeholders, internally and externally and serve as lead relationship manager through direct contact with every key partner or investors

PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term end date of 1 year from date of hire, with the possibility of extension.

PLEASE NOTE: Occasional work-related travel may be required when normal business operations resume.

PLEASE NOTE: The primary work location for this position is Boston, Massachusetts. Until our return to campus, which is still to-be-determined but anticipated to begin as soon as August/September 2021 (or later into the fall), this interview process and position will be conducted virtually including virtual interviews, remote onboarding, and remote work. The remote nature of this position is only temporary. Local, on-campus work will be required as a condition of continued employment once the School and this role return to an operational status that supports it. Basic Qualifications

* Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience required

* 7 years of relevant work experience required

Additional Qualifications and Skills

The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:

* Graduate Degree (e.g. MBA, MPH, MHA, MPP, PhD, RN, CNM, MD)

* Supervisory experience strongly preferred

* Domain expertise in maternal health strongly preferred, demonstrated interest and experience in health systems innovation

* Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, and helping to plan and drive organizational growth

* Clinical or healthcare experience

* Experience working effectively in a matrix structure

* Aptitude and/or experience in building long term strategic plans and execute them; competence in linking/making meaningful connections across clinical, service delivery, and policy domains

* Strong writer and synthesizer of information

* Excellent operational skills with a demonstrated track record of delivering projects on time, on scope and on budget, preferably in a healthcare setting

* Effectively steward finances and develop revenue streams

* Cultivate and secure confidence among investors, including individual donors and foundations

* Experience leading in a complex and often-changing environment and develop and nurture a strong, positive team culture

* Logical and rigorous thinker and problem solver, aptitude to integrate new information rapidly, comprehend large amounts of information, draw conclusions, and clearly communicate key findings and propose solutions

* Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including effective design and facilitation of meeting discussions
