Family Planning Center Medical Assistant – Full-Time 30-40 hours per week

The position of Center Assistant combines the roles of Medical Assistant and Patient Advocate to best serve the many needs of our patients. Join a valuable and inspiring field by providing care to gynecology and abortion patients!

Full-Time 30-40 hours per week available at Hartford GYN Center a state licensed Family Planning Clinic located across from Hartford Hospital. HGC has specialized in high quality women’s health and abortion care for over 40 years and offers a progressive work atmosphere. We are committed to advocating and caring for women seeking legal, safe, compassionate abortion care, in addition to gynecological care and assistance for adoption services and prenatal care.

Responsibilities include (Experience in one or more preferred):

• Checking patients in, taking payment and other routine front office duties
• Assisting Practitioners during gynecology services and filing of test results
• Performing pre-procedure vitals, basic lab work
• Assisting in the Procedure Room set up, during procedures and in transporting patients
• Recovery Room assistance including vitals
• Basic pathology examination of tissue, packaging of specimens including products of conception
• Decontamination and Sterilization of instruments
• Providing fact-based education, supportive counseling and community resources to patients
• Serving as an advocate for patients, their partners and families

The ideal candidate has:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Basic computer skills (Electronic Health Record experience a plus!)
• Ability to lift 75 pounds unassisted
• Experience/familiarity with ultrasound a plus!
• Bilingual candidates strongly preferred, but not required. Staff members who speak more than one language interpret for non-English speaking patients and their loved ones throughout their care

Full-Time hours include medical, dental, vision, 401k with match.
