POSITION SUMMARY:

Masters all job requirements and performs all trade skills needed as a Security and Communication Technician. Performs routine and non-routine assigned tasks under limited supervision. Participates in project work periodically and responds to other miscellaneous requests submitted by the Director of Technology and/or Chief Operating Officer. Flexible working hours as needed to complete responsibilities outside of standard work hours. Effectively communicates security equipment needs and progress updates on ongoing projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school or General Education Certificate (GED) is required.
  2. Relevant work experience preferred.
  3. Requires knowledge of, or the ability to learn about fire alarm, security camera, public address and VoIP phone systems; install or repair cabling; maintain various lighting controls, public address systems and scoreboards; and maintain mobile radios.
  4. Must have the ability to make repairs and alterations while following oral and written (blue print) directions.
  5. Must have the ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks while working independently and with others under limited supervision.
  6. Effectively demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions.
  7. Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  8. Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  11. Proficiency in the use of a variety of office/instructional equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and email.
  12. Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists in procuring and monitoring outside contractors as required.
  2. Coordinates with Network Supervisor when installing or repairing data cabling or devices connected to the data network.
  3. Develops, schedules, and performs preventative maintenance on division fire alarm, panic alarms, security, cameras, public address and VoIP phone systems. Tests fire alarm panel and panic alarm communication systems on a monthly basis to ensure communication with monitoring companies.
  4. Installs, repairs and maintains cabling in support of division electronic systems, including data, fire alarm, security, camera, public address and phone systems.
  5. Installs, repairs and maintains various lighting controls and public address systems, including interior and exterior scoreboards.
  6. Installs, repairs and maintains mobile radios, wireless systems and portable radios.
  7. Repairs and maintains fire alarm, security, camera and phone systems.
  8. Keeps building and division leadership updated on safety, security and communication needs as well as provides progress updates on ongoing projects.
  9. Submits all invoices and documentation to Finance in a timely manner.
  10. Takes all industry standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  11. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  12. Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  13. Actively participates in and attends all required meetings.
  14. Maintains confidentiality when appropriate.
  15. Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
  16. Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology and/or Chief Operating Officer.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Medium work, lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and the school community. Regular contact with staff members is required. Work is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, noise and hazards.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of administrative or licensed personnel.
