POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists the Network Supervisor in managing the operation of each school's local area network. Responsibilities include installing, testing and performing routine maintenance on network equipment and identifying and solving problems related to computer network technology, while communicating with users, manufacturers, and vendors concerning networking, hardware, or software issues. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidate must possess demonstrated ability and professional and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with school personnel and members of the community; to plan, coordinate, and lead projects; to diagnose and solve issues related to network systems; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, teachers, administrators, and students. Candidate must have training on and experience networking on servers as well as Macintosh, Windows, and Chrome devices; experience in supporting networks including, but not limited to, routers, switches, devices, printers, scanners, etc.; and successful experience in a network-related field including knowledge of current Microsoft and Linux systems. Network certification is preferred. Must have at least three years of successful experience in a computer-related field.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists with planning and management of network infrastructure and security.
  2. Installs and maintains networking equipment to allow for efficient flow of data within the school division and to the Internet.
  3. Configures and maintains local area networks to allow for maximum security.
  4. Installs and maintains hardware and software necessary for network connections including switches and routers.
  5. Supports various networking topologies being used in HCPS including, but not limited to, copper wiring, fiber optic wiring, and wireless networking.
  6. Solves problems relating to local area networking of Macintosh, Windows, and Chrome devices.
  7. Coordinates and serves as primary point of contact for school-based network wiring projects.
  8. Creates and maintains necessary documentation for networking configuration.
  9. Assists with configuration and maintenance of VOIP communication, content filtering, and firewall systems.
  10. Fulfills Computer Resource Technician duties at sites as directed by the Director of Technology and/or Network Supervisor. 
  11. Assists in the implementation of the HCPS technology plan.
  12. Keeps informed on the latest technologies, practices, and programs in the IT field.
  13. Assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  14. Takes all industry standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  15. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  16. Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  17. Actively participates in and attends all required meetings.
  18. Maintains confidentiality when appropriate.
  19. Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
  20. Effectively performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and the school community. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of administrative or licensed personnel.
