Click on the following link to view the full pay range on the ESP Salary Schedule: https://www.hsd2.org/our-district/financial-transparencyJob SummaryThe Social Emotional Wellness Specialist works with students who need support with social emotional, behavioral, and academic needs under the guidance of and in collaboration with school counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists. The Social Emotional Wellness Specialist incorporates intervention strategies that teach students more appropriate ways to deal with their behaviors and decision-making processes. These strategies include increased self-control, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), restorative practices, problem-solving skills and replacement behavior supports. Helps students, their families and the educational system overcome problems that impede learning. Assist in the provision of services for special education students who attend the assigned school building through direct service, consultation and liaison with school, home, and community. Help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of a school social worker or counselor, perform casework service with individual students to correct those personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
  • Work with classroom teachers, special service providers, general school staff, and parents to support services for students’ specific needs including, behavioral intervention and individual and group support.
  • Lead and work with students in activities to promote their physical, mental, and social development and their school readiness.
  • Provide academic support when necessary.
  • Observe and prevent negative behavior using redirection or other positive strategies.
  • Check in with students during lunch and other unstructured times throughout the day.
  • Collect data, like student on task behavior and attendance, along with other measurable elements to ensure students are successful.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and community agencies to secure the best possible services for students and for those parents who request such assistance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience:
  • Two years’ experience working with school-aged students.
  • Academic experience in Mental Health, crisis management, and or family systems of support.
  • Associate degree or higher in mental health, crisis management, and or family systems of support preferred.
  • Must meet the requirements for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) at time of hire (Associate’s degree or higher OR 48 semester hours at an institution of higher education).
  • Upload/Scan transcripts if you have a minimum of 48 semester hours.
  • Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.

For the purpose of these Rules, credits shall be in semester hours or may be interpreted as meaning the equivalent in quarter, trimester, unit or term.
