Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for providing professional engineering expertise to our commercial/institutional and industrial projects that seek to positively impact both the community and the environment. This incumbent will have the opportunity to work on innovative designs for industrial facilities and will see diverse projects through development, detailed design and construction support. The Mechanical Engineer will work primarily on projects within the healthcare, life sciences, general manufacturing and commercial facilities. Additional projects may include work on projects within air and seaports, and our other business sectors.

The Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical resource on complex designs and advance engineering theories, concepts, principles, and processes.
  • Interface with clients including meetings, presentations, and field investigation.
  • Perform mechanical design, such as process piping, HVAC, plumbing, working with other members of the mechanical staff, and coordinate with other disciplines (internal and external) on specific projects.
  • Prepare design calculations and documentation that support the project design basis.
  • Self-perform preparation of mechanical drawings, using designers or drafters as needed
  • Coordinate design with vendor supplied equipment.
  • Prepare equipment layouts and general arrangements.
  • Prepare construction bid packages and construction specifications.
  • Assist in preparation and presentation of proposals, including scope of services and fee estimate. 
  • Support business development activities.

The Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5 years of relevant experience. EIT required with intent of taking PE exam within 12 months.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical engineering techniques commonly used in industrial capital projects.
  • Prior experience with engineering consulting services.
  • Experience with building mechanical systems design including HVAC, plumbing and fire protection.
  • Experience with process system design and equipment specification including pumps, fans, heat exchangers, cooling towers, boilers, chillers, conveyors, and air handlers.
  • Ability to identify, interpret and apply relevant codes and standards to engineering designs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and constructors.
  • Proficient with MSOffice suite.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, and Revit required.
  • CADWorx a plus.
  • Knowledge of Caesar (preferred) or Autopipe pipe stress software, desired.
  • Knowledge of PIPE-FLO preferred.
  • Experience with Trane or Carrier HVAC load calculation software preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to an off-site location and/or accept client site assignments when required.
