General Summary:

The bond forfeiture section is charged with the responsibility of handling all bond forfeiture cases in the felony, misdemeanor, and justice courts. This division has a mixed criminal and civil practice that involves regular appearances in court with occasional exposure to issues surrounding collections, probate court, extradition, depositions, and bankruptcy. The bond forfeiture section also works closely with the Harris County Bail Bond Board and HCSO to monitor the local bonding industry and licenses of Harris County sureties.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

The Felony Prosecutor carries a case load in the felony, misdemeanor, and justice courts, and is responsible for managing regular bond forfeiture dockets in all assigned courts and carrying bond forfeiture cases to final disposition. Daily tasks include screening cases for appropriate disposition, drafting and proofing final judgments, processing bond reinstatements, responding to motions from opposing counsel, and answering bond related questions from courts as well as other prosecutors.

Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include felony prosecutorial experience, previous experience with the Rules of Civil Procedure, and a strong attention to detail.
