Here at R. Joe Harris & Associates, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our team. The Survey Crew Chief will be responsible for leading survey crews in the field, overseeing surveying projects, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of survey data collection. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of surveying techniques and equipment, and a passion for delivering exceptional results.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and manage survey crews in the field, providing guidance, direction, and support to ensure the successful completion of surveying projects.
  2. Plan and organize surveying activities, including determining surveying methods, procedures, and equipment requirements based on project specifications.
  3. Conduct field surveys using total stations, GPS equipment, and other surveying instruments to collect accurate data for boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, and other surveying tasks.
  4. Perform calculations and analysis of survey data to generate accurate survey plats, maps, and reports.
  5. Maintain and calibrate surveying equipment, ensuring proper functionality and accuracy at all times.
  6. Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and other team members to coordinate surveying activities, address project requirements, and resolve any issues or challenges that may arise.
  7. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for survey crew members and other personnel on site.
  8. Keep detailed records of surveying activities, including field notes, data sheets, and project documentation.
  9. Mentor and train junior survey crew members, providing guidance and support to help them develop their skills and knowledge in surveying techniques and procedures.
  10. Stay informed about industry trends, advancements in surveying technology, and changes in surveying regulations and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Survey Crew Chief or in a similar surveying role required.
  • Proficiency in operating total stations, GPS equipment, and other surveying instruments.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead survey crews and collaborate with project teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of surveying software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Trimble Business Center, preferred.
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license or ability to obtain licensure in the future preferred.
