Do you remember and still love your favorite book from childhood?If so, good news: HarperCollins/Clarion Children’s Books is seeking an Editorial Assistant to provide administrative and editorial support to a collaborative, mission-driven team. The Editorial Assistant will support two seasoned editors on a range of projects, including picture books, the I Can Read line for beginning readers, as well as select middle grade and graphic novels—by award-winning/bestselling authors, illustrators, and debut creators.
This is a hybrid position based out of our New York office.
Responsibilities
Reads and evaluates manuscript submissions, and assists with preparation of acquisitions materials, including conducting sales research, creating P&Ls, Acquisitions Memos, and drafting contract paperwork.
Maintains and updates author files, handles paperwork for and tracks book contracts,orders contract copies, processes payments and invoices, traps review quotes.
Drafts copy for individual titles, including title sheets, flap copy, and selling copy; updates backlist copy; generates and maintains metadata; conducts positioning research.
Reviews production stages for physical and ebooks, maintaining intra-departmental communication and deadlines. Maintains pipeline grids (I Can Read; Biscuit; Little Critter etc.).
Corresponds and nurtures positive relationships with authors, illustrators, agents, and industry colleagues.
Attends meetings with and acts as liaison to other internal departments (e.g. Publicity, Marketing, Managing Editorial, Production, etc.).
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Prior relevant work experience (including but not limited to internships and/or coursework)
Must have a passion for children’s books, knowledge of the marketplace, and keen interest in learning about the business of publishing
Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task; must be highly organized, flexible, patient, and detail-oriented
Must be an efficient, self-motivated, problem-solver with excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and Power Point

The salary for this position is $48,500. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
