Family First is an education navigation program designed to empower and support young parents aged 13-25 in achieving their academic and personal goals. Case Advocates play a vital role in implementing the Family First components (Education, Parenting, and Resource Brokering) by partnering with young parents to provide guidance and support. We believe with reliable support, young parents can accomplish their educational and life goals despite having a child at a young age.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Family First Case Advocate position focuses on providing support and advocacy for young parents (13-25) in need. Advocates work closely with young parents to ensure their well-being and assist them in education, parenting, and accessing necessary resources. The primary responsibilities include managing a full caseload, attending weekly check-ins, conducting outreach, assisting in program development, and maintaining an updated Google calendar at all times. The goal is to promote family stability, child development, and overall family well-being.

Case Advocates play a vital role in providing guidance and support to young parents, assisting them in navigating challenges and achieving their goals. They work under the supervision of Harmony at Home's Program Managers to ensure effective program implementation and adherence to established protocols.

PAY RATE: $24 per hour/$25 per hour if bilingual

HOURS: Full-time position with a total of 40 hours per week. Part-time positions available with 16-30 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Family First Advocacy:

  • Maintain and manage a full caseload of 20 members including mothers,fathers, and guardians enrolled in the program.
  • Provide advocacy and support to families in need, ensuring their well-being and promoting family stability.
  • Conduct case management activities, including survey tools, goal setting, and referrals to community resources.
  • Assist families in accessing necessary services and programs to meet their needs.
  • Maintain regular communication and follow-up with families to monitor education and individual progress and provide ongoing support.

Child Watch for Peer Groups:

  • Assist in child watch activities during peer group sessions to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
  • Collaborate with Child Watch staff and the Program Manager to supervise and provide guidance to Child Watch team members.
  • Develop and maintain an updated Child Watch manual and provide professional development opportunities for Child Watch staff.

Program Development:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of programs and activities that promote family well-being and child development.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager & Assistant Program Manager to plan and execute program initiatives.
  • Conduct outreach and recruitment efforts to engage families in the program.

Google Calendar Management:

  • Maintain an updated Google calendar with all scheduled program-related activities, meetings, and events.
  • Ensure timely communication and coordination of schedules with program staff, participants, and external partners.

Data Tracking:

  • Collect, document, and submit required program data accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Attend data training and meetings to stay informed about data collection protocols.
  • Conduct regular assessments and outreach activities as required, reporting any challenges to the Program & Assistant Program Manager.
  • Submit time cards, mileage reports, and monthly reports in a timely manner according to established guidelines.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Represent Harmony at Home at community events and presentations to promote the program's mission and services.
  • Collaborate with the Family First team, funding partners, and referral sources.
  • Attend mandatory training and meetings for program implementation and improvement.
  • Maintain clean and well-stocked office space, adhering to office procedures and expectations.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Passion for working with families and advocating for their well-being.
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge and comfort discussing family planning and child development.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Empathy and ability to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of positive youth development concepts and approaches.

COMPUTER/SOFTWARE/TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENT:

  • Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Extensive experience with Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Drive, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Canva, and Outlook.
  • Basic mathematical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS REQUIREMENT:

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

EDUCATIONAL / CERTIFICATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field (social work, counseling, psychology, public health) or related work experience.
  • One to two years of experience in working with at-risk populations or family support programs.
  • Experience with program development and implementation.
  • Experience working with infants and small children.
