About the Role

Development Quality(DevQ) is a team dedicated to building a "culture of waste prevention" within product development. DevQ establishes standards and guidelines for assuring product quality during development, then measures the effectiveness of our development methods to deliver quality products and satisfy our customers.

DevQ engineers are project team members specializing in hardware/mechanical or software quality. DevQ engineers identify key measures of product maturity and project "health" and make them visible to project leaders for quick course correction. DevQ engineers also carry out specific work product audits and development process assessments in order to identify strengths and weaknesses in our development processes, methods, and tools. As a valuable output, they prepare clear "problem statements" for continuous improvement teams to use in waste reduction.

What You Will Do

This position provides opportunities to participate in software and hardware development, perform quality planning (APQP, ASPICE), risk management (FBA, FMEA), product and process auditing, develop and monitor product maturity and process health dashboards, and participate on problem-solving teams (8D).

  • Prepare and execute project quality assurance plans including development process compliance checks

  • Perform risk management

    • Facilitate/participate in Function Block Analysis (FBA)

    • Facilitate/participate in Design Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (DFMEA)

    • Participate in internal and customer-driven design reviews

    • Prepare inputs for and participate in project maturity gate reviews

  • Assess project health

    • Develop project KPIs and report status via dashboards

    • Assess project deliverables vs. schedule and quality standards

    • Evaluate the effectiveness of actions to fix missed targets

    • Escalate uncorrected underperformance

  • Assess software development compliance to ASPICE standards

  • Participate in problem solving and continuous improvement

    • Assign audit findings and assure proper action plans

    • Moderate/participate in problem solving teams using 8D method, assuring

      • Clear problem statements

      • Root cause analysis

      • Effective product design improvements and process updates

      • Lessons learned are built-in

What You Need

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program at an accredited institution having completed your Sophomore year or later, taking at least one class in the semester/quarter prior to participation in the internship program, and returning to school for at least one semester upon completion of the internship program

  • Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA

  • Must have taken courses in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Industrial Engineering

  • Product Design classes a plus

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to confidently interact and present information to senior leaders and executives

  • Must work collaboratively with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills

What Makes You Eligible

  • Be willing to work in an office in Novi, Michigan.

  • Able to provide your own housing and transportation to/from work.

  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization.

  • Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment

  • Must provide full work availability from May 20, 2024 through August 9, 2024 and be able to work 40 hours per week
